The transition process will begin November 1, 2025, with FCC officially assuming full operations on January 1, 2026. This partnership marks a major step forward in strengthening Pinellas County's commitment to sustainable waste management and advancing Florida's renewable energy initiatives. "This is more than a business agreement - it's a partnership built on shared environmental responsibility," said Dan Brazil, CEO of FCC Environmental Services. "Our mission, 'Working responsibly today for a better environment tomorrow,' aligns perfectly with Pinellas County's goals for innovation and waste reduction. We look forward to delivering operational excellence and community value through this important collaboration." Turning waste into clean energy. The Pinellas County Waste-to-Energy facility processes approximately 2,700 tons of solid waste per day, converting it into renewable electricity, which is enough to power the equivalent of more than 45,000 homes each day. The facility also recovers about 30,000 tons of metal each year for recycling, helping reduce landfill use and further promoting circular economy principles. Through this new partnership, FCC will collaborate closely with Pinellas County to enhance public education and outreach on recycling, energy recovery, and the environmental benefits of Waste-to-Energy technology. Florida remains FCC Environmental Services' largest operational hub in the United States, where the company currently serves more than 900,000 residential homes and thousands of commercial customers. The addition of the Pinellas County WtE facility marks FCC's second Waste-to-Energy operation within Florida and the United States, further expanding FCC's integrated environmental service portfolio - delivering end-to-end, sustainable waste management solutions across the state. Global expertise, local impact. FCC Environmental Services draws on the global experience of its parent company, FCC Enviro, a world leader with more than 50 years of expertise in energy recovery from non-recyclable waste. Worldwide, FCC Enviro operates 13 Waste-to-Energy facilities, with a 14th set to begin operations soon. Collectively, these facilities process 4.9 million tons of waste annually, generating 470 megawatts (MWe) of renewable electricity - enough to power nearly 400,000 homes. This collaboration brings proven international expertise to Florida, helping Pinellas County continue to lead in sustainable waste solutions and reinforcing FCC's commitment to building cleaner, smarter, and more resilient communities.
