ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW Hours 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., daily The Collingwood Farm Boy, the 52nd store in Ontario, officially opened its doors with a lineup of customers waiting to get inside. The store used to be a Sobeys that opened in 2007 and closed last year. At 30,000 square feet, it is one of the larger stores for the company. The store has 120 employees and they are still hiring. The Collingwood store is also the second in Simcoe County, along with Barrie. The store includes a meat department, hot and cold stations, salad bar, a bakery, a large cheese section and a host of prepared meals. Niagara This Week asked him to suggest five things a person new to Farm Boy must check out when they visit the Collingwood store. The produce department. Farm Boy prides itself on having the freshest produce. Drache said the company has "the shortest distribution line between the farm and the farmers market. So, No. 1, it's always going to be produce." Meat department. "Our value-added meat. We are not just selling chicken breast and steaks. We are selling stuffed chicken breasts, which have really interesting flavour profiles. We have a line of something like 12 gourmet burger patties. So, it's not just bacon cheddar, it's jalapeno jack, it's Thai turkey, it's buffalo chicken, it's butter chicken burgers. And 12 different kinds of artisanal sausage that we make. You've got to check out our butcher case." Himalayan pink salt popcorn. A popular private label item, the popcorn is kettle popped, has only three ingredients, is 37 calories per cup and is gluten free. Eda-Yummy spicy kale edamame dip. The dip is made with kale, edamame, garlic, fresh jalapenos and lemon. Drache said the popcorn and Edamame dip are the matriarch and patriarch of the private label department. Breakfast items. "I believe that we have the best bang for the buck for breakfast anywhere. You can get a breakfast sandwich that weighs almost a pound with three different kinds of meats in it for $4.99."
