Federated Insurance acquires commercial trucking insurer HDVI to expand across 26 states

High Definition Vehicle Insurance (HDVI) has been acquired by Federated Mutual Insurance Company as of 1 August 2026. The commercial trucking insurance provider will operate as an autonomous subsidiary of Federated Insurance whilst retaining its current staff and agency partnerships. HDVI has grown from a startup to an insurance carrier operating across 26 US states over eight years. The company works with more than 100 agencies and 500 producers to insure hundreds of fleets and thousands of drivers annually. HDVI uses telematics data to assess risk and provide safety tools for commercial trucking fleets. The acquisition aims to strengthen both organisations and accelerate HDVI's growth in the commercial auto insurance market. Ardea Partners served as financial adviser to HDVI, whilst Stonybrook Capital advised Federated Insurance on the transaction.

Staff Writer Owatonna Peoples Press Federated Mutual Insurance Company hosted its 122nd Annual Meeting of Policyholders on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in Owatonna, Minnesota. Chairman, President and CEO Nicholas Lower presided over the meeting, reflecting on Federated's continued growth and commitment to its policyholders, employees, association partners, and the communities where its employees live and work. He began by thanking the company's more than 47,000 policyholders. "Every day, we are privileged to protect the future of American business owners who drive progress, create opportunities, and strengthen the communities they serve," said Lower. "For 122 years, they have trusted Federated Insurance to provide tailored coverage, equitable premiums, and proactive risk management solutions. It is an honor to partner with them. We remain steadfast in our mission to meet their evolving needs and enhance their success." Lower credited Federated's more than 3,000 employees for the company's strong 2025 financial results.
