Diameter Pay raises $10 million to expand stablecoin payments infrastructure.

Diameter Pay raises $10 million to expand stablecoin payments infrastructure. By PYMNTS | September 3, 2026 Diameter Pay has reportedly raised $10 million in a Series A funding round as the stablecoin payments infrastructure provider looks to expand its banking, payments and digital asset capabilities. The round was co-led by CMT Digital and Lightspeed Faction, according to a Thursday (Sept. 3) report in The Block. Other investors included SixThirty Ventures, Stellar Development Foundation, Tech Council Ventures, Onigiri Capital and BitRock Capital. The financing marks Diameter Pay's first outside funding round. Founder and CEO David Lighton told The Block that the company was bootstrapped before the Series A. The equity round began in April and closed in July in a single tranche. Lighton declined to disclose the company's post-money valuation. Founded in 2023, Diameter Pay provides payment infrastructure to banks, FinTech companies and digital asset exchanges. Its platform provides access to U.S. dollar virtual accounts, domestic and international payment rails, stablecoin on- and off-ramps and compliance controls through U.S. banking partners, according to The Block. Please add us to your preferred sources list so our news, data and interviews show up in your feed. Thanks! Lighton said the company's virtual accounts allow foreign FinTech companies to offer U.S. dollar accounts to their customers while Diameter Pay manages compliance and payment controls. The accounts can also connect to stablecoin infrastructure. Diameter Pay began processing payments for foreign banks in 2024. The company said it has processed more than $10 billion in payment volume this year. Its sponsor banking partners include Portage Bank and SSB Bank, along with a third publicly traded sponsor bank that has not been disclosed, Lighton told The Block. He said additional banks are being onboarded. "When a sponsor bank partners with us, they are allowing us to use their access to the USD clearing infrastructure, and in exchange, they get fee revenue and low-cost deposits," Lighton said. The company said access to dollars has become more difficult in some markets as correspondent banks have withdrawn from certain regions amid increased sanctions and anti-money-laundering risks. Diameter Pay said this can leave legitimate businesses excluded from financial services. Diameter Pay plans to use the new capital to expand its banking and payment capabilities, deepen its stablecoin and foreign exchange infrastructure and continue investing in technology and compliance tools for cross-border dollar movement. As part of the financing, CMT Digital received a board seat, while Lightspeed Faction and SixThirty Ventures received observer seats, Lighton told The Block. Robert Pozen, former president of Fidelity Investments, is serving as a senior adviser to the board.

BofA, Citi, Goldman Sachs among 21 institutions planning stablecoin launch.

BofA, Citi, Goldman Sachs among 21 institutions planning stablecoin launch. The planned venture will initially focus on a US dollar stablecoin before expanding to other G7 currencies, with a euro-denominated offering next. A group of 21 major financial institutions plans to establish a new company to develop and issue stablecoins, offering another sign of traditional finance's push into digital dollars as regulatory frameworks take shape. The consortium, announced Tuesday, includes Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Citi, Deutsche Bank, UBS, Santander, MUFG and Fidelity Investments. It plans to launch a US dollar-denominated stablecoin in the first half of 2027, subject to the company's formation and other conditions. According to the announcement, the group ultimately plans to expand into stablecoins denominated in other G7 currencies, with a euro offering identified as its next priority. The consortium said its stablecoin will target wholesale, institutional and retail markets, including use cases such as cross-border payments and digital asset settlement. The initiative is intended to comply with both the US GENIUS Act and the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), where applicable. The venture builds on an initiative announced last October, when an initial group of 10 banks said they were exploring a 1:1 reserve-backed form of digital money available on public blockchains. The consortium has since more than doubled in size, bringing together financial institutions across North America, Europe, East Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Banks deepen push into stablecoins. The move comes as stablecoins have grown considerably in recent years, with the passage of the GENIUS Act and MiCA creating clearer regulatory pathways for adoption. Elsewhere, Singapore is considering allowing jointly issued cross-border stablecoins into its regulatory regime, according to a Tuesday announcement, revisiting its earlier decision to restrict the framework to domestic issuance. Institutional interest was already taking shape in early 2025, when a Fireblocks survey of 295 executives found that 90% of respondents were using or planning to use stablecoins. Since then, major financial institutions have expanded their presence in the sector. Societe Generale's crypto subsidiary has issued euro- and dollar-denominated stablecoins, while Fidelity recently launched its US dollar-pegged FIDD stablecoin. SocGens crypto subsidiary has issued euro- and dollar-denominated stablecoins, as has Fidelity, with its FIDD US dollar-denominated entry. Last month, Standard Chartered backed a Hong Kong dollar stablecoin venture.
