Alain Mathieu joins Foley Hoag as chair of Sports and Entertainment Group. May 26, 2026 Foley Hoag announced today that Alain Mathieu has joined the firm as a partner and member of the Litigation Department. Mathieu, who will sit in the firm's Boston office, will chair Foley Hoag's newly formed Sports & Entertainment Group. "We are excited to welcome Alain to Foley Hoag and to launch a Sports and Entertainment Group under his leadership," said Managing Partner Jim Bucking. "Alain's representation of athletes, entertainers, and sports organizations in litigation, investigations, and transactions will make the firm a go-to destination for the industry." Mathieu advises all-star, hall of fame and other professional athletes, entertainers, companies, agencies, agents, teams, leagues, brands, creatives, and executives on both business and personal matters. He also handles business litigation, including contract disputes, government investigations, and intellectual property litigation for his clients. "I am thrilled to join Foley Hoag. The firm's platform and strength across litigation, intellectual property, and transactional matters give me the tools to serve my clients at an even higher level," Mathieu said. "I'm excited to grow the Sports & Entertainment Group and look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to make that happen." Mathieu is an active member of the community. He sits on the Boards of Crossroads (as Vice Chair), The Wily Network, Shooting Touch, and the Eddie-Mae Robbie Foundation, as well as the advisory boards of The Foundation to Be Named Later, the Concussion & CTE Foundation, and Harlem Lacrosse Boston. He maintains an active pro bono practice, representing victims of domestic and sexual violence and refugees. His arrival reflects the ongoing expansion of the firm's disputes practice, following that of national security litigator Ambassador David Pressman and First Amendment litigators Michael Grygiel and Kelly McNamee. Mathieu joins Foley Hoag from another Boston-based firm. He recently spent nearly six months as Interim General Counsel of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority where he served as chief legal advisor to its CEO and Board of Directors during a critical transition period for the organization. Foley Hoag has launched a First Amendment and Media practice group, adding nationally recognised First Amendment litigators Michael Grygiel and Kelly McNamee as partners. Christina Hernsdorf joins as an associate, with all three based in New York. Grygiel and McNamee, who have practised together for a decade, represent media organisations, publishers and content creators in high-stakes First Amendment matters. Their notable cases include successfully defending five Gannett newspapers against defamation claims by Nicholas Sandmann and obtaining dismissal of Candace Owens' lawsuit against USA TODAY. Grygiel, ranked in Chambers USA and recognised as a Law360 MVP in Media & Entertainment, will chair the new practice group. Steven Wright Joins Foley Hoag as Chair of Insurance Recovery Practice

Steven Wright joins Foley Hoag as chair of Insurance Recovery practice. March 10, 2026 Foley Hoag announced today that Steve Wright has joined the firm as a partner and chair of its Insurance Recovery practice, bringing more than two decades of experience representing corporate, financial, nonprofit, and governmental policyholders on insurance coverage matters and in high-stakes disputes. Wright advises policyholders and litigates on their behalf in matters involving directors and officers (D&O) liability; errors and omissions (E&O)/professional liability; commercial general liability; fidelity and crime policies; product contamination and recall; and property and specialty insurance policies, including cyber insurance. "We are thrilled to welcome Steve to Foley Hoag and have him step into the role of chair of our Insurance Recovery practice," said Managing Partner Jim Bucking. "His leadership and litigation experience, combined with his understanding of insurance issues across many industries, will strengthen our ability to help clients with their coverage disputes."
