Alain Mathieu joins Foley Hoag as chair of Sports and Entertainment Group. May 26, 2026 Foley Hoag announced today that Alain Mathieu has joined the firm as a partner and member of the Litigation Department. Mathieu, who will sit in the firm's Boston office, will chair Foley Hoag's newly formed Sports & Entertainment Group. "We are excited to welcome Alain to Foley Hoag and to launch a Sports and Entertainment Group under his leadership," said Managing Partner Jim Bucking. "Alain's representation of athletes, entertainers, and sports organizations in litigation, investigations, and transactions will make the firm a go-to destination for the industry." Mathieu advises all-star, hall of fame and other professional athletes, entertainers, companies, agencies, agents, teams, leagues, brands, creatives, and executives on both business and personal matters. He also handles business litigation, including contract disputes, government investigations, and intellectual property litigation for his clients. "I am thrilled to join Foley Hoag. "I'm excited to grow the Sports & Entertainment Group and look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to make that happen." Mathieu is an active member of the community. He sits on the Boards of Crossroads (as Vice Chair), The Wily Network, Shooting Touch, and the Eddie-Mae Robbie Foundation, as well as the advisory boards of The Foundation to Be Named Later, the Concussion & CTE Foundation, and Harlem Lacrosse Boston. He maintains an active pro bono practice, representing victims of domestic and sexual violence and refugees. His arrival reflects the ongoing expansion of the firm's disputes practice, following that of national security litigator Ambassador David Pressman and First Amendment litigators Michael Grygiel and Kelly McNamee. Mathieu joins Foley Hoag from another Boston-based firm. He recently spent nearly six months as Interim General Counsel of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority where he served as chief legal advisor to its CEO and Board of Directors during a critical transition period for the organization. Mathieu received his J.D. from Boston College Law School and his B.A. from Bowdoin College. Media contact.
