Foothill Ventures is a technology-focused venture fund based in Los Altos, California, that backs early-stage startups in frontier tech, with emphasis on infrastructure and AI applications. Its “product” is capital and strategic support for portfolio companies; the fund uses the team’s experience as founders and operators to guide companies, provide industry connections, and help them scale from seed to growth. Unlike generalist or later-stage funds, Foothill Ventures differentiates itself through hands-on investment from a team with practical startup know-how and a focus on technically ambitious infrastructure and AI projects. The goal is to help ambitious founders build and scale frontier technologies, advancing meaningful infrastructure and AI solutions from early stages to broader impact.

HyperLight Corporation, a thin-film lithium niobate photonics company, has raised $80 million in a Series C round led by MediaTek. The round included participation from UMC Capital, Jabil, Foxconn, EDBI, CDIB-TEN Capital and Qatar Investment Authority, alongside strategic investors from silicon IC and networking firms. The company develops TFLN technology for AI infrastructure optical interconnects, offering higher bandwidth and lower power consumption. Its TFLN Chiplet Platform supports 200G-per-lane operation, with 400G-per-lane solutions now sampling. HyperLight recently announced a manufacturing partnership with UMC and Wavetek for high-volume production on six-inch and eight-inch wafers. The funding will expand manufacturing capacity, accelerate customer qualification and scale the platform. CEO Mian Zhang said the round brings together companies across the AI infrastructure value chain.
Nervonik, a Los Angeles-based clinical-stage medical device company, has closed an oversubscribed $52.5 million Series B financing round led by Amzak Health. Elevage Medical Technologies, US Venture Partners, Lumira Ventures, Foothill Ventures and Shangbay Capital also participated. The company is developing a peripheral nerve stimulation system that integrates stimulation with advanced sensing to deliver personalised therapy for chronic pain and neurological conditions. The technology incorporates real-time physiological feedback and has demonstrated successful recording of evoked compound action potentials using implantable leads. The funding will support continued development and commercialisation of Nervonik's platform, including its proprietary sensing capabilities. The company aims to advance its clinical programmes and prepare for commercial launch of what it describes as next-generation bioelectronic medicine.
