Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ is the new Formula 1 Safety Car and makes its debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix. 2026-07-26 16:17:09 Author: Alfa Rent a Car Formula 1 launches first Safety Car with variable all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz is celebrating 30 years of official presence in the Grand Prix by introducing the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ at the Hungarian Grand Prix. The car brings impressive figures and an absolute technological first for the track. The Hungarian Grand Prix marks a turning point on the Hungaroring circuit. In addition to the intense battles between the single-seaters, the attention of motorsport enthusiasts also turns to the pit lane, where the new Formula 1 Safety Car makes its official debut: the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+. The German model takes over from the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (used since 2022) and marks a jubilee milestone: 30 years since the German giant has provided the official safety car in the most prestigious motor racing competition in the world. A historic first: Variable all-wheel drive. The biggest innovation that the new Safety Car brings to the grid is the variable all-wheel drive system - an absolute first in the history of Formula 1 Safety Cars. This technology guarantees maximum grip and exemplary stability on any type of asphalt or weather conditions on the Hungaroring. Under the hood lies an engine capable of astonishing performance: Engine: 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 | Power: 612 horsepower (HP) | Maximum torque: 850 Nm | Transmission: 9-speed automatic | Maximum speed: 317 km/h To quickly stop this brute force and withstand the extreme temperatures on the track, the car is equipped with high-performance ceramic compound brake discs. Bernd Mayländer's 300 km/h office. The vehicle will be driven, as usual, by German Bernd Mayländer, the official driver of the Safety Car in Formula 1. His mission is a critical one: maintaining a pace fast enough so that the cars behind do not lose temperature from their tires and brakes during the neutralization periods. "The safety car must be at the limit of performance to be able to dictate the pace of Formula 1 single-seaters. The new GT 63 Pro offers exactly the level of stability and power we need in critical moments." For the safety and comfort of the pilot, the interior has been transformed into a true racing cockpit, equipped with: Recaro competition bucket seats | Full rollcage | Pirelli P Zero R high-performance tires Cutting-edge technology and integrated aerodynamics. In addition to the impressive mechanical package, the new Safety Car also comes with aesthetic and functional innovations. The warning lights and rotating beacons have been ingeniously integrated into the rear wing, thus optimizing airflow. Inside, the car functions as a mobile command center permanently connected to Race Direction. It is equipped with sophisticated radio communication systems, video cameras for live broadcasts and a dedicated GPS system for millimeter-level monitoring on the circuit. The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ is ready to start at the Hungaroring, ready to guarantee the safety of the fastest drivers in the world.
F1 launches AI-powered Strategy Insight graphics at Hungarian GP AWS-powered F1 strategy graphics make Budapest broadcast debut. Formula 1 will launch its new AI-powered Strategy Insight broadcast graphics at the Hungarian Grand Prix, giving viewers real-time predictions about pit stops, tyre changes and the strategies most likely to unfold. Developed with AWS, the feature is designed to offer fans a clearer view of the decision-making process normally taking place behind the scenes on the teams' pit walls. Lewis Hamilton opens up about the lowest moments of his career ahead of his return to Hungary. Beginning with the Budapest race, viewers following the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix broadcast will see Strategy Insight appear as graphic panels on Formula 1's world feed. The new tool combines machine learning with Track Pulse, Formula 1's real-time data feed, to predict what could happen on track based on the current race conditions and historical precedents. How F1 Strategy Insight will explain race decisions. Strategy Insight is a predictive model intended to make Formula 1 strategy more transparent and easier for viewers to understand. Its graphics will explain the optimal race plans identified by the system, particularly the most effective moments to make a pit stop and change tyres. The objective is to provide viewers with a level of strategic detail comparable to the information available inside Formula 1 teams. Rather than waiting for pit stops to reveal each competitor's intentions, fans should be able to follow the strategic picture while it is still evolving. Ruth Buscombe explains the new AWS-powered tool. Former Formula 1 race strategist and current AWS Technical Advisor Ruth Buscombe spoke enthusiastically about the project, which she personally helped to develop. "Strategy in F1 has always been described as something of a dark art and a black box," Ruth Buscombe said. "Now, thanks to the power of the insights made available by AWS, we can turn it into a glass house." Ruth Buscombe brings extensive experience at the highest level of motorsport. She previously led race strategy for Alfa Romeo and also worked with Ferrari and Haas. She now serves as an on-air analyst on Formula 1's world broadcast feed. Ruth Buscombe stressed the importance of making the teams' decision-making processes more visible to the audience. "Teams are constantly assessing and changing the strategy, and we hope this Strategy Insight plug-in is a way to bring that story to the forefront, giving viewers at home a clearer window into the decision-making process." Why F1 Strategy Insight will debut at the Hungarian GP. The Hungarian Grand Prix weekend provides an ideal first test for the new tool. Ruth Buscombe described strategy at the Hungaroring as being "on a knife edge" because teams must make finely balanced calculations when choosing between one-stop and two-stop plans. "For a two-stop plan, the first pit stop needs to come by lap 20 of 70, a decision that typically has to be made even earlier," Ruth Buscombe explained. The narrow window for making that call means that a mistake can compromise either strategy. The choice between one and two stops is expected to be an important part of the 2026 Hungarian GP tyre strategy, with the new graphics intended to show viewers how the calculations develop in real time. "If you wait too long for the two-stop, you lose. If you go too early and end up with a one-stop, you lose as well," Ruth Buscombe said. "Teams have around 15 laps to work it out, and we will bring that story live into your homes. You won't have to wait to see what the teams do: we will show you the story as it unfolds." Bringing fans closer to the Formula 1 pit wall. Strategy Insight aims to transform one of Formula 1's most complex and closely guarded areas into a central part of the broadcast narrative. By combining live race data, historical information and predictive modelling, the tool should help viewers understand not only what teams are doing, but also why they are considering a particular strategic decision. Its Hungarian Grand Prix debut will provide an immediate challenge. With teams facing a limited window in which to choose between one and two pit stops, Strategy Insight will attempt to make the tactical battle understandable before the decisive moves become visible on track.
Moët Hennessy and Formula 1 launch fine dining experience that travels the race track. Moët Hennessy and Formula 1 unveil The Out Lap, a 12-seat moving fine dining experience debuting at Spa in 2026. What it means for corporate hosts. Moët Hennessy and Formula 1 have unveiled The Out Lap, a hospitality concept billed as the world's first moving fine dining experience staged on a grand prix circuit, with its debut set for the Formula 1 Moët & Chandon Belgian Grand Prix 2026 at Spa-Francorchamps. For UK firms that use grand prix weekends to entertain clients, the launch signals a fresh tier of corporate hospitality, one that puts guests on the track itself rather than in a suite overlooking it. With Spa a short hop from the UK via Brussels, the Belgian round is already a fixture in many SME entertainment calendars, and this adds a headline option at the top of the market. Twelve seats and a travelling dining room. The concept takes its name from the lap a driver completes from the garage to the starting grid. Guests, limited to just twelve per experience, board a travelling dining room that moves directly through the circuit, following a bespoke route designed around each grand prix and stopping at the track's most celebrated locations. At each stop, a former racing driver shares personal memories of the circuit's defining moments. Every chapter of the journey is matched with a dish created by a leading chef and paired with wines and spirits from the Moët Hennessy portfolio. Each edition is designed to be unique, with every circuit inspiring its own route, stories and menu. The approach reflects a wider shift in corporate entertaining, with venues reporting that most corporate events now include experiential elements rather than conventional wining and dining. The 5-minute daily briefing for UK business travellers. Free. Unsubscribe any time. Spa-Francorchamps hosts the first edition. The inaugural edition takes place at Spa-Francorchamps, home to legendary corners including Eau Rouge, Raidillon, Pouhon and La Source. Moët Hennessy has invited Yannick Alléno, the world's most Michelin-starred chef and chef ambassador for race title partner Moët & Chandon, to create an exclusive menu conceived to be experienced in motion. The choice of a marquee chef taps into changing appetites among wealthy travellers, who are increasingly looking beyond the traditional fine dining format in favour of experiences they cannot buy elsewhere. After Belgium, The Out Lap will travel to the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix, the Formula 1 Pirelli Gran Premio d'Italia and the Formula 1 TAG Heuer Gran Premio de España, with each stop offering a new interpretation of the concept. Part of a ten-year luxury push into F1. The Out Lap is a flagship expression of the ten-year global partnership between LVMH and Formula 1, announced in 2024 and launched in 2025, which brought Louis Vuitton, Moët Hennessy and TAG Heuer into the sport. Formula 1 has framed the deal as a bridge between global sport and entertainment. The experience draws on Moët Hennessy houses including Moët & Chandon, Hennessy, Belvedere Vodka, Glenmorangie, Whispering Angel, Volcan de mi Tierra and French Bloom. Pricing and booking details have not yet been announced, but with twelve seats per edition, demand from corporate hosts is likely to far outstrip supply. F1 hospitality has been moving steadily upmarket, from track-side suites to official afterparties built around corporate entertainment programmes, and The Out Lap sets a new benchmark for what a grand prix invitation can look like. Andrea Thompson Andrea can be found either in the Travelling For Business office or around the globe enjoying a city break, visiting new locations or sampling some of the best restaurants all work related of course!
Mission 44 and Lewis Hamilton host 40 students at Silverstone for an inspiring F1 experience inside Mission 44: Lewis Hamilton gives 40 students unforgettable access to Formula 1. Mission 44 was present at Silverstone last weekend to continue its mission of breaking down the barriers that limit opportunities for talented students while increasing inclusion across STEM fields and motorsport. Working alongside Formula 1, the foundation brought together teams, partners and industry experts at the Igniting Inclusion Summit to explore the steps needed to improve access to and support for talented students from underrepresented backgrounds who aspire to careers in racing. Red Bull's Pierre Waché denies Max Verstappen's growing frustration rumours Five years after the publication of the landmark Hamilton Commission report, Accelerating Change, the Igniting Inclusion Summit provided an important opportunity to reflect on the progress made in widening access to Formula 1 while also setting out a clear vision of what still needs to be achieved. A special conversation with Lewis Hamilton and an unforgettable visit to the Ferrari garage. Last Thursday, 40 students from Mission 44 partners AFBE-UK, upReach, Stevenage Borough Council and Silverstone UTC gathered at the Silverstone UTC campus for a special meeting with Mission 44 founder Lewis Hamilton. Speaking with the students, the British driver reflected on his journey to Formula 1 and explained why creating greater opportunities for young people remains at the heart of Mission 44's work. The students then shared their own thoughts on what needs to be done to improve access to STEM careers and help build a more inclusive motorsport industry for future generations. The group later headed into the heart of the Formula 1 paddock for an unforgettable afternoon, enjoying an exclusive visit to the Scuderia Ferrari garage. In addition to touring the garage, the students had the opportunity to see the LEGO Formula 1 mini cars that would take part in the Silverstone driver parade on Sunday. They also met the engineers and designers behind the project, asking questions about the creative process, the technical challenges and the teamwork required to bring these one-of-a-kind racing cars to life. Back at Silverstone UTC, the day concluded with an interactive session led by IBM, a Mission 44 partner. During the workshop, the students explored how emerging technologies - including artificial intelligence, data and digital innovation - are shaping the future of motorsport while opening up exciting new career opportunities. Since its launch in 2021, Mission 44 has worked closely with schools, charities and industry partners such as Formula 1 to create more inclusive pathways into STEM careers and motorsport, already achieving significant and encouraging results.
Audi will replace departed F1 principal Wheatley, says Binotto. 28 Mar 2026 03:13AM (Updated: 28 Mar 2026 03:14AM) Add CNA as a trusted source to help Google better understand and surface our content in search results. March 27: Audi will replace Jonathan Wheatley as principal of the Formula One team after his unexpected departure, the head of the German carmaker's F1 project Mattia Binotto said on Friday. The team announced last week that the Briton had left the Swiss-based team for personal reasons, with former Ferrari boss Binotto adding the role of principal to his other duties. Wheatley has been linked to Aston Martin, the team run by his former Red Bull teammate Adrian Newey and now struggling with an uncompetitive Honda engine. He had joined Sauber, now Audi, in April last year. "Looking at what his strengths were, the task he was performing - we need to fill the gap," Binotto told the website at the Japanese Grand Prix. "I can't simply add more and more responsibility and tasks for myself. "My main focus is at the factory base where we need to transform the team, where we need to develop the car and the powertrain, so I will need someone to support the team here at the race weekend. "We are considering it. We will organise ourselves and I am pretty sure that very soon we can announce it." Binotto said Wheatley's departure, which came after media speculation about Aston Martin, had taken the team by surprise. He added that the Briton had said he could not commit long term to the team for private reasons. "We decided as Audi, given that he couldn't commit, to release him from duties. I don't think that as a team we have realised it yet. It was just (last week) and now we are here in Japan and we have a race weekend ahead."
