Funding Societies | Modalku Group

Two-sided SME lending and payments platform

Overview

Funding Societies operates as a digital finance platform for SMEs in Southeast Asia, matching borrowers with a pool of individual and institutional investors for debt funding. Its products include short-term business term loans, invoice financing, revolving lines of credit, and microloans, with quick approvals enabled by technology and alternative data; investors access a diversified SME debt portfolio with low minimums. The company differentiates itself with a broad regional footprint, being licensed in four SEA countries, and by expanding into payments and expense management (notably via CardUp) to support transactions beyond lending. Its goal is to close the SME financing gap in Southeast Asia by providing accessible, data-driven credit and a connected payments ecosystem that helps businesses grow.

UOI partners Funding Societies to introduce embedded protection for SME Financing.

UOI partners Funding Societies to introduce embedded protection for SME Financing. Singapore, 23 July 2026 - United Overseas Insurance Limited (UOI) has partnered with Funding Societies, Southeast Asia's largest unified SME digital finance platform, to launch AssureProtect, a new embedded insurance proposition designed to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) strengthen business continuity. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to supporting SMEs with practical financial solutions that address both growth and resilience. As part of the collaboration, AssureProtect will be included in all Funding Societies Business Term Loan Pro at no additional cost to SME borrowers, providing added protection when it matters most. As SMEs continue to invest in expansion while building resources and capabilities, ensuring business continuity remains critical. AssureProtect is designed to protect businesses against unforeseen events that could affect their ability to meet financing obligations. Under the coverage, the outstanding loan amount will be paid in the event of the accidental death or permanent disability of a key person associated with the business. AssureProtect also provides 24/7 worldwide coverage and requires no underwriting or additional application process, making protection simple, accessible and seamless for SME owners. Andrew Lim, Chief Executive Officer of United Overseas Insurance Limited, said: "We understand that SME's face unique challenges as they balance growth ambitions with the realities of building resilient and sustainable businesses. We are delighted to partner with Funding Societies to introduce AssureProtect, ensuring SME owners have access to meaningful protection that safeguards their financing obligations while they focus on growing their businesses with confidence." Kelvin Teo, Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Funding Societies, said: "For many SMEs, the owner is the business. If something happens to them, the debt can outlive the company and fall to the family. AssureProtect is built into Business Term Loan Pro at no additional cost and with no forms to complete, so the protection is there for SMEs on this product. Having financed over 100,000 SMEs across Southeast Asia, we have learned that resilience comes from how financing is structured. UOI is a natural partner for this." The collaboration underscores the importance of integrating protection into the financing journey, enabling SME owners to access not only the capital they need to grow, but also the assurance that their businesses are better protected against unexpected events.

Funding Societies, Boost Bank launch property-backed SME loans in Malaysia

Funding Societies and Boost Bank have launched a secured loan product for Malaysian SMEs, allowing businesses to borrow against industrial or residential properties for working capital, expansion and operations. Under the first phase, Funding Societies will originate financing for eligible SMEs using Boost Bank's balance sheet. The partnership targets firms with assets that still face financing gaps. The product extends Boost Bank's SME lending range beyond its existing unsecured Term Loan and Revolving Credit offerings. The digital bank has focused on underserved micro-SMEs often deemed high risk by traditional banks. The collaboration pairs Funding Societies' borrower sourcing capabilities with Boost Bank's lending capacity, enabling faster entry into secured lending without building distribution independently. The companies say this approach adds pressure on traditional banks operating legacy systems.
