Group14 has started production at its BAM-3 factory in South Korea, capable of producing 2,000 metric tonnes of silicon battery materials annually—enough for 10 gigawatt-hours of energy storage or approximately 100,000 long-range EVs. The facility was originally a joint venture with SK, which owned 75% before selling its stake to Group14 last summer. Group14's silicon anode technology uses a hard carbon scaffold to prevent swelling and crumbling whilst enabling fast charging. The company works with Porsche's Cellforce Group, StoreDot, Molicel and Sionic. Some customers are using the materials to boost energy density by up to 50%, whilst others focus on fast-charging capabilities, including designs that can charge batteries from flat to full in 90 seconds.

The funds will be used to continue scaling the manufacture of Group14's silicon battery material, SCC55, in the U.S. and South Korea, and help meet overwhelming demand amid surging requirements for energy storage worldwide.
