Hazel Health partners with schools and families to provide physical and mental health care for K-12 students at no out-of-pocket cost. Care is available at school or at home and does not depend on a student’s insurance status. A team of clinicians delivers care and a clinical staff helps families navigate treatment plans, with licensed therapists for mental health support. The goal is to keep students engaged in learning by addressing health needs quickly, reducing absenteeism and increasing instructional time.

Hazel Health, which once called itself the largest K-12 mental and physical health provider in the US, faces an uncertain future after two rounds of layoffs and losing several major contracts with school districts. The telehealth company cut 135 staff members in February, leaving about 500 employees. It lost one of its biggest customers, the Los Angeles County Office of Education, and shortened its contract with Chicago Public Schools due to funding challenges. Several other districts have also ended or plan to end their contracts. The company is restructuring to pursue more stable funding sources like Medicaid and private insurance after federal relief funds expired. CEO Iyah Romm said the company was losing "too much money" to meet its goals. Los Angeles spent over $28 million in one year for Hazel services across 80 districts.
