SpaceX closes new commercial booking window for Falcon 9, Avio increases Vega C flight frequency, SEOPS locks in Isar six mission. 18 Sep 2026 17:39 On September 15th, during World Space Business Week, after the successful launch of Isar Aerospace's second Spectrum rocket, ride sharing service provider SEOPS ordered an additional 5 rounds, bringing the total to 6 rounds, which will be launched from the Anders Island Spaceport in Norway and the Nova Scotia Spaceport in Canada between 2028 and 2030. Isar's 2028 launch plan is fully booked, with its 3rd to 7th rockets already in production and a 40000 square meter final assembly plant under construction. On September 16th, the CEO of European rocket operator Avio stated at an executive seminar that the sudden restriction of Falcon 9 launch opportunities is prompting global payload operators to turn to Europe, Asia, and other launch service providers outside of SpaceX. The consultation volume of commercial satellite operators has reached an unprecedented level, and the company is expanding its Colleferro assembly plant in Italy to increase the frequency of Vega C rocket flights.

Isar Aerospace becomes first private European company to reach orbit with Spectrum rocket

Isar Aerospace's Spectrum rocket has become the first private European vehicle to reach orbit, lifting off from Norway's Andøya island. The milestone gives NATO a European-built launch capability for commercial and allied sovereign customers. The success is crucial for alliance security and resilient economies. NATO has treated space as an operational domain since 2019, with modern connectivity, surveillance and information advantage all running through satellites. NATO allies already own or operate over half the world's active satellites. Isar's vertically integrated factory can build up to 40 rockets annually, with a second launch site under construction in Nova Scotia. The company's model aims to eliminate single points of failure in allied launch capability. NATO's Commercial Space Strategy, endorsed in February 2025, commits the alliance to rely more heavily on commercial space providers across peacetime, crisis and conflict.

Isar Aerospace Spectrum rocket reaches orbit, eyes 2028 launch from Canada.

Isar Aerospace Spectrum rocket reaches orbit, eyes 2028 launch from Canada. Isar Aerospace, the German launch services company that builds the Spectrum launch vehicle, achieved a major company and European milestone on Saturday when it reached orbit successfully on its second flight and deployed five satellites. It's the first time a commercial company has reached orbit from Western European soil. The two-stage rocket lifted off from Andøya Space in northern Norway just after 10 p.m. local time. Europe's only other operational orbital rockets (not including Russia's), Ariane 6 and Vega C, are run by Arianespace and fly from French Guiana in South America. Spectrum's first flight failed shortly after liftoff in March 2025, and this second flight went through several scrubbed launches this year, including a leaking pressure vessel in the spring, before Saturday's success. Watch the Spectrum launch highlights. Options: Andøya, French Guiana and Spaceport Nova Scotia. Andøya suits polar orbits well but not lower-inclination ones - the angle between an orbit and the equator - because a rocket generally can't reach an orbit tilted lower than its own launch latitude without burning extra fuel on a costly plane change. Enter Spaceport Nova Scotia. Isar is also building a dedicated Spectrum launch complex at Spaceport Nova Scotia, under a 10-year, roughly $155-million deal ($US 112.5 million) with Maritime Launch Services signed in July. Isar and Maritime Launch pushed back a deadline to finalize the remaining details of that agreement, from Sept. 1 to Sept. 15, earlier this week. The first launch from Spaceport Nova Scotia is targeting sometime in 2028. While Andøya suits polar orbits, the launch pad at Spaceport Nova Scotia would let Spectrum fly east over open water into lower-inclination orbits, chief engineer Nikolaos Perakis said on a livestream of Saturday's launch. Isar is also planning to launch from the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana, which operates under a dual-partnership framework shared between the French National Center for Space Studies (CNES) and the European Space Agency. "Launch continues to be the largest bottleneck for the global space industry, and from today on, there is a true alternative for commercial and institutional customers," said Daniel Metzler, the co-founder and chief executive of Isar Aerospace. The company, founded in 2018 near Munich, says it has five more Spectrum rockets already in production and is building a factory meant to turn out up to 40 vehicles a year.

WSCAD customer Isar Aerospace successfully launches Spectrum into orbit.

WSCAD customer Isar Aerospace successfully launches Spectrum into orbit. Isar Aerospace has reached a major milestone for European spaceflight. On September 5, its Spectrum launch vehicle lifted off from Andøya Spaceport in Norway and successfully delivered payloads into orbit. This marks the first time a commercial European space company has achieved this milestone. Isar Aerospace relies on WSCAD electrical CAD software for the electrical engineering of its test stands and ground infrastructure. WSCAD congratulates the entire Isar Aerospace team on this achievement. Isar Aerospace uses WSCAD for electrical engineering. Isar Aerospace has been working with WSCAD since the company's early days. The electrical CAD software is used for the electrical design and engineering of test stands. The engineering team uses WSCAD to create electrical schematics and design the associated control cabinets and industrial control panels. Electrical engineering plays an important role in the development and testing of launch vehicles. Before components and systems can be used, they need to undergo extensive testing and validation. For this purpose, Isar Aerospace operates various test stands equipped with programmable logic controllers and individually configured control cabinets. What role does WSCAD play in Isar Aerospace's rocket testing? The test facilities range from smaller systems for testing individual components, such as valves and batteries, to complex installations for rocket engine testing. For larger test stands, Isar Aerospace works with a network of interconnected control cabinets containing components such as PLCs, power supplies, contactors, relays, frequency converters and safety equipment. Reliable and up-to-date electrical documentation is essential for this infrastructure. WSCAD provides the engineering platform for electrical design and control cabinet engineering. How does WSCAD support electrical design and control cabinet engineering? Isar Aerospace uses WSCAD to create the electrical schematics for its test stands. Recurring circuits can be stored and reused as macros, helping to accelerate engineering processes while reducing the risk of errors. Once the schematics are complete, the control cabinet layout is designed using WSCAD Cabinet Engineering. 3D design capabilities provide additional support. Components can be positioned according to their actual dimensions and checked for potential collisions. Wire lengths, including routing, can be calculated during the design process, while cable duct fill levels can also be taken into account. WSCAD therefore supports a consistent digital engineering process, from creating electrical schematics to the detailed design of control cabinets. Why did Isar Aerospace choose WSCAD? When Isar Aerospace was founded, its electrical engineers had experience with a range of electrical CAD systems. The team compared several solutions based on their functionality and cost. According to the customer success story, functionality and purchase price were ultimately decisive factors in choosing WSCAD. As a rapid implementation was essential, the team completed a specially adapted five-day training course. Specific standard circuits, component data and macros were prepared for subsequent use as part of the training. This enabled Isar Aerospace to use WSCAD productively from day one. Its learning curve was enormous. WSCAD GmbH were able to work independently and highly effectively with WSCAD's software after a very short time. Marc Rötzer, electrical designer at Isar Aerospace From WSCAD ELECTRIX to ELECTRIX AI. Today, WSCAD is taking this approach further with ELECTRIX AI, the world's first and only AI-powered electrical CAD software. ELECTRIX AI helps electrical engineers automate time-consuming routine tasks and significantly accelerate engineering workflows. The objective is clear: less time spent on repetitive work and more engineering capacity for complex tasks, development and innovation. Spectrum's successful flight demonstrates the growing strength and innovation of Europe's commercial space industry. WSCAD congratulates Isar Aerospace on this milestone and is proud to support the company with its electrical engineering software. Find out how Isar Aerospace uses WSCAD for the electrical engineering of its test stands and control cabinet design in its detailed Isar Aerospace customer success story.
