Jinko powers Athens airport with world's largest airport PV+ESS self-consumption project. Jinko ESS, a global leading energy storage company and a subsidiary of Jinko Solar Co., Ltd., joined Athens International Airport (AIA) in December 2025 in the celebration of another successful step towards the completion of the airport's "Route 2025" roadmap. Operating in one of the world's most safety-critical industries, the airport employs a 123.8 MWh utility liquid cooling energy storage system provided by Jinko ESS with its partner KIEFER tek, to enable efficient energy management and stabilize power supply. The project safely deploys 36 containerized units, each with 3.44MWh of nominal capacity. The system features ultra-low degradation and full-cycle containers. This milestone represents the key enabler for the airport to achieve net-zero emissions 25 years ahead of the industry target and realize 100% energy self-sufficiency. This environmental commitment establishes the airport as a leading example of green transformation among global transportation hubs. Its General Manager Europe, Roberto Murgioni, described the project as a milestone that is set to transform the Greek gateway "into a pioneer of the Net zero-carbon era." Lawrie Wilson, Head of Sales Jinko ESS Europe, and Dimitris Varlamis, Head of Sales Southeastern Europe at Jinko Solar, attended the opening ceremony on 12 December 2025, where partners and stakeholders gathered to celebrate this important milestone.
