Kitu Systems

Kitu Systems

Cloud-based DER coordination and EV charging

Overview

Kitu Systems provides software to manage and coordinate distributed energy resources like solar, batteries, and EVs. Its Grid Action Platform collects data from edge devices and securely connects them with utilities and energy market operators, with components such as Spark for edge devices, Citadel behind the utility firewall, and Convoy as a cloud-based aggregation platform; Expedition CMS adds EV charge management. The platform relies on open standards (IEEE 2030.5, OCPP, ISO 15118) to enable vehicle-to-grid, demand response, and dynamic pricing, while emphasizing security (SOC 2 Type 2) and patented methods for shared control of DERs. The goal is to provide a scalable, reliable communication and software infrastructure that coordinates behind-the-meter resources and smart charging to optimize grid operations and enable new energy services.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Katapult launched June 24, 2026, creating a new testing-as-a-service revenue line.
  • Willy's Overland Lofts went live April 20, 2026, expanding Expedition into multifamily charging.
  • Kitu's June 2026 one-million-device validation gives enterprise buyers proof before deployment.

What critics are saying

  • ChargePoint, Schneider Electric, and Autel compress Kitu's pricing power across adjacent software layers.
  • Kitu's June 2026 marketing cadence signals small-scale wins, not durable recurring revenue traction.
  • If one utility platform outage surfaces, Kitu's certification brand and renewals suffer immediately.

What makes Kitu Systems unique

  • Kitu owns IEEE 2030.5 expertise, spanning CSIP and CSIP-AUS testing at one-million-device scale.
  • Its Expedition CMS and Grid Action Platform target both DER management and EV charging.
  • SOC 2 Type II recertification strengthens utility trust for security-sensitive grid communications.

Kitu Systems launches Katapult, a New Testing service that validates DER programs at enterprise scale.

Kitu Systems launches Katapult, a New Testing service that validates DER programs at enterprise scale. Jun 24, 2026 1:00:00 AM 3 min New Testing-as-a-Service Offering Proven at One Million Device Scale and Built for IEEE 2030.5 Certification San Diego, CA | June 24, 2026 - Kitu Systems, a leading provider of clean energy solutions for distributed energy resource (DER) management and electric vehicle (EV) charging, announces the launch of Katapult, a testing-as-a-service offering that enables utilities and aggregators to validate and certify their DER programs at large scale before problems surface in the field. As distributed energy resources proliferate across the grid, utilities face growing pressure to ensure their management platforms can handle large, simultaneous device interactions during load shifting and demand response events. Performance issues and certificate failures that go undetected in normal operations can cause real disruptions when it matters most. Katapult gives utility teams a way to find and fix those issues before they manifest. Katapult is purpose-built around IEEE 2030.5 and supports CSIP and CSIP-AUS deployments, making it directly applicable to the compliance and certification requirements utilities face in both North American and Australian markets, at a scale of up to one million devices. Each test run produces a detailed report with expert analysis, helping teams identify issues including race conditions, delivery latency, performance degradation, memory leaks, and response code compliance failures, before they impact a real DER event. "Utilities are being asked to manage more devices, across more programs, under tighter compliance requirements and most have no way to know how their platform will actually behave under that pressure until something goes wrong," shares Thomas Barbour, Kitu's Chief Commercial Officer. "Very few organizations in this industry have the depth of IEEE 2030.5 expertise and the infrastructure to test at true fleet scale. With Katapult, we're bringing that capability directly to utility teams, so they can move forward with confidence." Kitu Systems has already validated the platform through one of the largest DER interoperability tests ever conducted, simulating one million concurrent device connections under real protocol load, giving utilities confidence that Katapult isn't just built for scale, it's been proven at scale. Don't wait for a failed DER event to find out how your platform performs. Contact Jay Pilkington, Kitu's VP of Sales, at [email protected] or (619) 569-2208 to learn how Katapult can validate your DER program at production scale. Kitu systems powers EV charging expansion at willy's overland lofts in detroit. May 18, 2026 12:09:14 PM 3 min Detroit Residential Community Adds 10 FractalEV-Powered EV Charging Stations On Kitu's Expedition CMS Platform San Diego, CA | May 19, 2026 - Kitu Systems, a leading provider of clean energy solutions for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) management, announces the successful deployment of its Expedition Charge Management System (CMS) at Willy's Overland Lofts, a residential condominium community. The system went officially live on April 20, 2026, deploying 10 new FractalEV charging stations on Kitu's Expedition platform. Located at 444 W. Willis Street in Detroit, Michigan, the new deployment expands the existing EV charging ecosystem at Willy's Overland Lofts, which already includes 18 Kitu-managed chargers. With the addition of the FractalEV L2 stations, the community now offers a combined total of 28 EV charging ports, making it one of the more equipped residential charging sites in the Detroit area. As a homeowner's association community where all chargers are individually owned by residents, Willy's Overland Lofts required a solution that could accommodate a unique billing and access model. Kitu's Expedition CMS was configured as an access-only site, with residents enrolled as corporate users through the HOA. This arrangement means drivers are not required to enter credit card or billing information in the mobile app and all charges flow through the HOA's existing billing structure, keeping the experience simple for homeowners. "Willy's is a great example of how residential communities are leading the charge on EV adoption," shares Freddie Pim, Kitu's Senior Partnership Manager. "Expedition was built to make EV charging simple for property owners and residents alike, and this deployment does exactly that, meeting the community's unique HOA billing needs while delivering a hassle-free experience for every homeowner." FractalEV's chargers are fully integrated with Kitu's Expedition CMS, delivering a seamless, all-in-one EV charging solution for residential and commercial properties. For multi-family developers and property managers, this combination simplifies everything from installation and access control to billing and ongoing management, making it easier than ever to offer EV charging as a premium amenity.
