EIB lends $165M to Kronospan for solar energy and electric vehicles across Central and Eastern Europe

The European Investment Bank is lending €146 million to Kronospan, a major European wood-based panel producer, to reduce emissions and enhance energy independence across Central and Eastern Europe. The funding will support solar photovoltaic installations at production sites in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, alongside battery storage systems and the replacement of fossil-fuelled vehicles with electric alternatives. Most investments will occur in EU cohesion regions. The project aligns with the EU's REPowerEU initiative and climate action goals whilst strengthening the supply chain for sustainable building materials. EIB Vice-President Karl Nehammer said the investment will help Kronospan cut emissions, lower energy costs and maintain global competitiveness whilst supporting European jobs and innovation.
