Kwetta

Kwetta

High-voltage grid-connected EV charging hardware

Overview

Kwetta designs and builds high-voltage EV charging infrastructure that bypasses traditional grid bottlenecks. Its Prime Grid Gateway connects to medium- and high-voltage distribution lines to power up to eight SkyHook charging bays, delivering 200 kW to megawatt-scale charging and managing grid stability as a “good grid citizen.” The system enables deployment in four to five months by avoiding costly grid upgrades, and Kwetta also plans to monetize grid services like frequency control and voltage support. The company targets fleet operators, transport hubs, and public charging operators, with plans to expand into Australia and Europe to serve heavy-vehicle charging needs.

What believers are saying

  • Kwetta launched in Europe on 2025-05-07, targeting Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway.
  • The 2025 Series A raised NZ$17.5 million, funding expansion into Australia and Europe.
  • Fonterra’s 2025 heavy-duty truck project validates demand for megawatt charging without grid upgrades.

What critics are saying

  • Kwetta remains a tiny manufacturer; scaling Napier production to Europe strains execution.
  • Heavy dependence on Fonterra, Z Energy, and early fleet pilots concentrates revenue risk.
  • If charger reliability slips, utilities and fleet operators will switch to ABB or Siemens.

What makes Kwetta unique

  • Kwetta’s Prime Grid Gateway connects directly to medium voltage, bypassing costly substation upgrades.
  • Its hardware delivers up to 1.2MW continuous output and scales to 12MW per site.
  • Fonterra and Z Energy deployments prove utility-grade grid management for heavy fleets.
