LG Display's FLiPP tech boosts OLED brightness 1.6x, lifespan 2.4x without metal masks

LG Display has developed FLiPP (FMM-Less innovative Pixel Patterning), a new OLED manufacturing method that eliminates the need for conventional fine metal masks. The technology will be unveiled at the International Meeting on Information Display 2026 in Busan from 19 August. Compared to traditional methods, FLiPP increases display brightness by 1.6 times, extends lifespan by 2.4 times, and reduces power consumption by 13% by improving the aperture ratio by approximately 55%. The process uses photolithography with UV light etching to pattern OLED pixels. LG Display is the first company to manufacture FMM-less OLEDs using 8.5th-generation mother glass as a single piece, achieving up to 64% higher utilisation efficiency. The technology can be applied to displays ranging from 1 inch to 100 inches, including tablets, monitors, wearables, and TVs.

Apple to release iMac with 5-layer OLED screen from LG Display.

Apple to release iMac with 5-layer OLED screen from LG Display. 10.08.2026 Apple continues its planned transition of its entire line of devices to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays. On August 10, 2026, it became known that LG Display has begun development of an innovative 5-layer multilayer Tandem OLED panel specifically for future iMac all-in-ones. Довідкові технічні матеріали While the current 24-inch iMacs feature high-quality Retina 4.5K IPS displays, the switch to OLED will deliver intense contrast, deep blacks, and significant improvements in power efficiency. Technical features of the 5-layer structure of BGBRB. LG Display's standard four-layer Tandem OLED panels (BGBR structure: two blue, one green, and one red layers) are capable of providing a wide color gamut, but they were not bright enough for Apple's desktop requirements. To meet Cupertino's strict technical standards, LG Display is developing a fundamentally new 5-layer BGBRB configuration: * Three blue emitting layers (B): provide increased service life and resistance to the burn-in effect of static macOS interface elements (Dock panels and menus). * One green emitting layer (G): significantly increases the peak and long-term brightness of the screen. * One red emitting layer (R): ensures accurate and natural color reproduction for professional photo and video content. Apple's key requirements for next-generation displays. The display divisions of Samsung Display and LG Display received a clear technical specification from Apple for the future iMac matrix: * Diagonal and resolution: 24 inches (or 27 inches for the older model) with 5K resolution. * Pixel density: High Retina standard at 218-220 PPI (pixels per inch). * Brightness level: stable long-term brightness of at least 600 nits (versus 500 nits in current LCD models). * Subpixel structure: Uses the RGB Stripe scheme to ensure maximum font clarity on macOS. Comparing the characteristics of current and future iMac displays. | Parameter / Characteristic | Current 24" iMac (Retina LCD) | LG 27" 5K OLED panel in test | Upcoming 5-layer OLED iMac | | Matrix type | IPS LCD with LED backlight | 4-layer Tandem OLED (BGBR) | 5-layer Tandem OLED (BGBRB) | | Pixel density | PPI 218 | PPI 220 | 218-220 PPI | | Maximum brightness | 500 knots | ~400-500 nits | 600 knots | | Contrast | 1000:1 (standard) | Infinite (OLED) | Infinite (OLED) | | Burnout protection | Not relevant | Base | Maximum (3 blue layers) | Release timeline and technology roadmap. Developing and scaling high-density 5-layer OLED panels (220 PPI) for large diagonals is a huge engineering challenge. Testing of 27-inch test samples on Samsung and LG lines is expected to continue throughout 2026-2027. Довідкові технічні матеріали The final development of OLED panels for the new iMac should be completed by 2028, and the full release of the updated all-in-one is expected in 2028-2029. LG Group stocks draw split analyst views after Q2 earnings.

LG Group stocks draw split analyst views after Q2 earnings. 2026-08-02 02:09:21 Key Takeaways * LG Group subsidiaries received 14 analyst upgrades versus 23 downgrades in the one-week period from July 27. * LG Innotek's Package Solutions revenue rose 14% quarter-over-quarter to 498.4 billion won with operating margin improving to 11.7%. * LG Household & Health Care received unanimous upgrades as North American sales surpassed China and cosmetics returned to profitability. Securities analysts issued divergent target price adjustments for LG Group subsidiaries following Q2 earnings, with 14 upgrades versus 23 downgrades during the one-week period from July 27 per FnGuide. The split reflected conflicting valuation methodologies - strong fundamentals versus declining Korean stock multiples and global peer valuations. LG Electronics and LG Innotek drew divided assessments despite beating expectations. LG Household & Health Care received unanimous upgrades as North American sales surpassed China and cosmetics turned profitable. Meritz Securities cuts LG Electronics target on KOSPI valuation decline. Meritz Securities maintained a 'buy' rating for LG Electronics but reduced the target price from 260,000 won to 220,000 won. Yang Seung-soo, analyst at Meritz Securities, stated the current stock price does not fully reflect enhanced earnings capacity and mid- to long-term growth potential including AI data center cooling and robotics businesses. The downward adjustment incorporated the decline in KOSPI's 12-month forward average price-to-book ratio (PBR) into the valuation model. LG Innotek Package Solutions revenue rises 14% in Q2. LG Innotek's Package Solutions division recorded revenue of 498.4 billion won in Q2, up 14% quarter-over-quarter, driven by smartphone substrates and flip-chip ball grid array (FC-BGA) sales for high-performance semiconductors. Operating margin in the segment improved from 8.6% in Q1 to 11.7% in Q2 according to IBK Investment & Securities estimates. Analysts noted the growing Package Solutions business reduces profit concentration in the camera module segment. iM Securities analyst Ko Eui-young stated that while business visibility improved, the sharp decline in global peer group stock prices made downward target price adjustments unavoidable from a relative valuation perspective. Brokerages upgrade LG Household & Health Care on North america growth. LG Household & Health Care was the only LG Group subsidiary to receive uniformly positive analyst revisions. North American sales exceeded China for the first time, and the cosmetics division returned to profitability. Securities firms that issued reports simultaneously raised investment opinions and target prices. Analysts attributed the turnaround to reduced dependence on China and duty-free channels while expanding North American distribution networks translated into actual profitability improvements rather than one-time cost cuts or currency effects. Analysts lower LG Energy Solution and LG CNS targets. LG Energy Solution faced target price cuts due to initial operating costs and production bottlenecks at the North American energy storage system (ESS) production line. LG Display downgrades reflected declining average panel selling prices and cost pressures on downstream customers. LG CNS saw its stock price fall by approximately half over two months. Q2 operating profit missed market expectations as rising proportions of new businesses increased cost burdens. Oh Dong-hwan, Samsung Securities analyst, stated that slower-than-expected affiliate sales growth prompted downward operating profit estimate revisions. He noted intensifying competition for large projects such as financial sector system modernization could lead to further profitability declines. Faq. Why did LG Electronics receive a lower target price despite strong Q2 results? Meritz Securities reduced LG Electronics' target from 260,000 won to 220,000 won to reflect the decline in KOSPI's 12-month forward average PBR, even as the analyst maintained that the stock remains undervalued relative to improved earnings capacity and growth potential in AI data center cooling and robotics. What drove the profitability improvement in LG Innotek's Package Solutions division? LG Innotek's Package Solutions revenue increased 14% quarter-over-quarter to 498.4 billion won in Q2, with operating margin rising from 8.6% in Q1 to 11.7% in Q2 according to IBK Investment & Securities, driven by strong sales of smartphone substrates and FC-BGA products for high-performance semiconductors. Why did LG Household & Health Care receive unanimous analyst upgrades? LG Household & Health Care's North American sales surpassed China for the first time and the cosmetics division returned to profitability, prompting all securities firms that issued reports to simultaneously raise investment opinions and target prices based on reduced China/duty-free dependence and successful North American distribution expansion.
