Learning Technologies Group PLC is transitioning to private ownership after being acquired by private equity group General Atlantic. Despite strong growth from £1.5 million to £100 million in profits and a 70-fold increase in EBITDA, market conditions led to a declining share price, making the company an attractive private equity target. The acquisition involves significant leverage, with plans for potential divestitures. The transition is set to complete by March 31, following court approval.
Learning Technologies, a London-listed edtech firm, agreed to an £836 million takeover by US private equity firm General Atlantic, amid a surge in take-private deals on the London Stock Exchange. This year, 45 firms have exited or entered talks, with take-private deals reaching a record £52 billion. Including other exits, the total value of companies leaving the market may exceed £100 billion. General Atlantic cited burdensome reporting requirements as a reason for the move.
