(Yicai) April 28 -- Shares of Xizhi Technology, also known as Lightelligence, surged on their first day of trading in Hong Kong, with the Chinese company becoming the world's first artificial intelligence optical computing solutions developer to go public.
Lightelligence, a Chinese optical-computing provider, surged 384% in its Hong Kong trading debut, marking the second-best first-day performance among IPOs raising at least $100 million since 1985. The company raised HK$2.5 billion ($323 million), achieving a market value of $10.4 billion. The IPO attracted cornerstone investors including Alibaba Investment, GIC and Temasek, which together subscribed over 71% of the offering. Founded in 2017, Lightelligence develops optical-interconnect and optical-computing solutions for AI applications, using light to transfer data with faster speeds and lower power consumption. The company plans to allocate 70% of proceeds to research and development. It reported a loss of CNY 1.3 billion in 2025, whilst R&D expenses reached CNY 480 million.

PhotonEra, a Chinese computing power provider, raised $210 million in a Series C funding round. New investors include China Mobile and Shanghai State-Owned Capital Investment, alongside existing shareholders like CAS Star. The funds will enhance PhotonEra's photonic-electronic hybrid computing technology and accelerate its commercialization.
