Dietary supplements that have caused 12 hospitalizations are being recalled from the market. Superfoods, Inc. announced the recall of its supplement "Live it Up Super Greens" due to possible Salmonella contamination, which has recorded 45 cases and led to 12 hospitalizations to date. The recall includes all batches of "Live it Up Super Greens," in its Original and Wild Berry versions, sold in bags and sticks. The recalled batches begin with "A" or "3," with expiration dates between August 2026 and January 2028. * Live it Up Super Greens, 8.5 oz bag with UPC 860013190804 * Live it Up Super Greens, 30x sticks, with UPC 850077468063 * Live it Up Super Greens, Wild Berry, 8.5 oz. pouch, with UPC 860013190811 * Live it Up Super Greens, Wild Berry, 30x sticks, with UPC 850077468070 The supplements were sold nationwide in the United States, as well as in Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands. Consumers who have purchased the products should check the lot information and, if they have the affected product, discard it immediately. Additionally, they can request a refund by contacting the company via email, providing their purchase information and a photo of the product. The FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported that the outbreak could be related to Live it Up Super Greens. No other Live it Up products are included in this market recall. Production of it has been suspended while the FDA and the company continue investigating the origin of the problem. Meanwhile, Live it Up stated: "We take food safety very seriously. We apologize for the inconvenience and concern this recall may cause our customers. Our company is committed to ensuring the quality of our products and the well-being of our consumers." Symptoms of Salmonella Contamination. Healthy people infected with Salmonella often present with fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, Salmonella infection can cause the microorganism to enter the bloodstream and produce more serious illnesses, such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis, warns the FDA in the statement. It is a microorganism that can cause serious, and sometimes fatal, infections in young children, elderly or frail individuals, and other people with weakened immune systems. The risk groups most affected by Salmonella infection are those with weakened or vulnerable immune systems, where the disease can become severe and require hospitalization. * Children under 5 years old, especially infants and babies, due to their developing immune system. * Adults over 60 years old, particularly in nursing homes, due to the natural decline in defenses. * Immunocompromised individuals, such as patients with HIV, cancer, diabetes, or transplants. * Pregnant women face greater risks for themselves and the fetus. * People taking antacids, proton pump inhibitors, or immunosuppressive medications are also vulnerable, as the stomach acid barrier is reduced.
