Microsoft Copilot is live in Office 365 environments. ChatGPT Enterprise is connected to internal knowledge bases. AI agents are being given access to email, calendars, code repositories, and business data. The productivity gains are real. So are the risks. Attackers are already experimenting with these new attack surfaces. Prompt injection, data exfiltration through AI interfaces, unauthorized action execution by AI agents, and insecure integrations between AI tools and enterprise systems are not theoretical threats. They are documented, they are being tested in the wild, and most organizations have no idea whether their AI deployments are exposed to them. What makes AI systems a security testing problem. Traditional penetration testing covers the attack surfaces organizations have had for decades: networks, endpoints, web applications, and authentication systems. AI deployments introduce attack surfaces that are categorically different. AI systems accept natural language input from users. That input is not just data. It is instruction. A skilled attacker can craft input that manipulates an AI model into ignoring its guidelines, extracting data it was not supposed to share, or taking actions it was not supposed to perform. This is prompt injection, and it is one of the most actively researched attack classes in AI security right now. AI tools are deeply integrated with sensitive data. Copilot has access to everything in your Microsoft 365 environment that the authenticated user can see. If permissions are misconfigured, an attacker who can access Copilot can use it to surface files, emails, and data they would never have found through traditional access paths. The AI becomes a reconnaissance tool. AI agents can take actions, not just answer questions. Agentic AI systems are designed to do things: send emails, write code, submit forms, query databases, and interact with APIs. An attacker who can manipulate an agent's behavior through indirect prompt injection can cause it to take unauthorized actions on their behalf. The agent's access becomes the attacker's access. AI system behavior is difficult to audit after the fact. Traditional systems leave logs. AI systems generate outputs that depend on context, prompt phrasing, and model state in ways that are harder to attribute and audit. An attacker who exfiltrates data through an AI interface may leave fewer forensic traces than one who exfiltrates through a traditional access path. What AI Penetration Testing actually evaluates. A Lumifi AI penetration test is a structured assessment of the AI tools deployed in your environment, evaluated against the attack paths that skilled adversaries are actively exploring.
