Sila, a California-based startup developing next-generation battery materials, has raised $300 million in new funding. The company, which previously raised $1.3 billion, will use the capital to expand its Moses Lake, Washington manufacturing facility. Sila has developed a silicon-carbon material that replaces graphite in lithium-ion battery anodes, offering better performance and higher energy capacity. The current plant has a production capacity of about 2 gigawatt-hours of anode material, potentially supplying 20,000 to 50,000 electric vehicles. The planned expansion could increase this volume by more than 100-fold. The funding round was led by Atreides Management and Sutter Hill Ventures, with participation from 8VC, Bessemer Venture Partners, Matrix Partners, and funds advised by T. Rowe Price Associates.
