It focuses on everyday value for customers, using a Total Quality model and a policy of Always Low Prices to run a streamlined, highly efficient business. Its products and stores are organized around strong logistics, private-label goods, and minimal promotions, with checkout implemented using barcode scanning to speed up service. Mercadona launches new Hot Cheese jalapeño bites for airfryer. They can be cooked in an air fryer in six minutes. Mercadona's new snack featuring breaded bites filled with melted cheese and jalapeño. Photo: MDB Digital Mercadona has expanded its frozen food range with the launch of Hot Cheese, a new snack featuring breaded bites filled with melted cheese and jalapeño. The 300g packs are priced at €2.30 and are aimed at shoppers looking for quick and convenient snacks or light meals. The bite-sized snacks combine a creamy cheese filling with a mild jalapeño kick, coated in a crispy breadcrumb layer. They can be cooked in an air fryer in six minutes, in a conventional oven in 12 minutes or pan-fried, with the pre-fried coating designed to deliver a crunchy finish whichever method is used. The launch forms part of Mercadona's continued expansion of its frozen food range, reflecting growing demand for easy-to-prepare products. The retailer recommends keeping the bites frozen until cooking to maintain both quality and food safety. Nutritionally, the product contains 233 calories per 100g, with 15g of fat, including 5.9g of saturated fat, and 17g of carbohydrates. A full 300g bag contains around 699 calories, meaning it is best shared or served as a starter or snack rather than eaten as a single portion. Inspired by the popular Tex-Mex combination of cheese and jalapeño, the bites can be served on their own or with dips such as guacamole, sour cream or barbecue sauce. Mercadona says they are ideal for sharing, casual gatherings or quick meals, although customers are advised to allow them to cool slightly before eating because of the hot melted cheese filling. Supermarket giant opens first next-generation store in Mallorca. The Mallorca opening forms part of Mercadona's wider rollout which is expected to replace older formats between 2026 and 2033. The supermarket has been redesigned to make shopping more intuitive. Photo: MDB Digital Spanish supermarket giant Mercadona has opened its first next-generation store in Mallorca, with the new-look supermarket launching in Sant Llorenç des Cardassar following an investment of more than €3 million. The revamped concept focuses heavily on fresh produce, energy efficiency and faster shopping, as the retailer continues modernising stores across Spain. The supermarket has been redesigned to make shopping more intuitive, moving away from the traditional department layout in favour of a process-based system aimed at improving customer flow and reducing waiting times. Mercadona says the changes will also help staff work more efficiently during restocking and day-to-day operations. One of the biggest additions is a new central preparation hub where fresh food is cut, cooked and packaged in one area. The company says the setup improves quality control while increasing shelf space for fresh products. It also claims the redesign can cut water use by up to 40% and reduce energy consumption by around 10%. The store also introduces new technology aimed at streamlining operations, including digital management tools and upgraded refrigeration systems designed to reduce cold air loss and improve sustainability. Mercadona says the use of CO[2] refrigeration will help lower the store's environmental impact. The Mallorca opening forms part of Mercadona's wider rollout of the "Tienda 9" model, which is expected to replace older formats between 2026 and 2033 as part of a multi-billion-euro investment programme. The new store also includes a customer rest area, parking for electric vehicles and bicycles, and expanded facilities to support growing online shopping demand on the island.
