Jones Day adds Milbank's APAC restructuring head in Sydney.

Jones Day adds Milbank's APAC restructuring head in Sydney. Nicholas Dunstone marks Jones Day's fifth lateral partner hire in Australia this year 28 July 2026 Credit: Jones Day Jones Day has hired the head of Milbank's APAC restructuring practice in Sydney. Nicholas Dunstone has joined the firm's business restructuring and reorganisation practice as a partner, bringing more than 25 years' experience advising on complex cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters across the Asia-Pacific region and globally. Heather Lennox, who leads Jones Day's 100-lawyer business restructuring and reorganisation practice, said Dunstone's track record of representing creditors, distressed investors and debtors across multiple jurisdictions "gives him the ability to see restructurings from every angle". Advertisement Dunstone spent just over three years at Milbank as a partner working across Singapore and London. Before that, he spent 11 years as head of restructuring at hedge fund manager Asia Research & Capital Management in Hong Kong, and earlier practised at firms including Clifford Chance and legacy Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft. He is admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales and as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Australia and NSW. Jones Day says it has recruited five partners since the start of 2026 and 13 since mid-2024, when it kicked off a growth strategy across areas including M&A, private equity, finance and disputes, as well as restructuring. Chris Lovrien, partner-in-charge of Jones Day's Australia region, said one focus of that growth push had been "to build a world-class practice representing financial institutions, investors and corporates in cross-border finance, private credit, distressed finance and work outs", adding that Dunstone's hire would support that aim. "Nick built one of the leading restructuring practices in Australia early in his career and went on to develop an extensive network across Asia-Pacific and global financial centres, which makes him a tremendous asset to our clients," said John Cooper, partner-in-charge of Jones Day's Sydney office. "His arrival will strengthen our ability to serve clients on complex cross-border restructuring matters that connect Sydney to Singapore, Hong Kong, London and beyond." Prominent recruits include a three-partner Melbourne litigation team which joined from Corrs Chambers Westgarth in March - Matthew Critchley, Alicia Salvo and Brendon Clarke - while class action defence specialist Christine Tran joined from HSF Kramer in October last year. However, the firm has also seen some departures from its disputes practice. Daniel Moloney joined Gilbert + Tobin in September 2025 in Melbourne; Sydney partner Holly Sara followed in his footsteps in December, while veteran litigator John Emmerig moved to Thomson Geer in January 2026. Milbank, meanwhile, has seen a number of senior exits across Asia this year, including the managing partner of its Seoul office, David Cho, who left for Dechert in Singapore in May. In February, partner Andrew Pendleton also joined Mayer Brown in Tokyo as head of project finance for EMEA and Asia, with a counsel and special counsel making the move with him.

Clearlake expands credit platform with acquisition of LCM CLO management contracts.

Clearlake expands credit platform with acquisition of LCM CLO management contracts. June 11, 2026 Clearlake Capital Group has expanded its liquid credit business through the acquisition of collateralized loan obligation (CLO) management contracts from LCM Asset Management, a move that adds more than $5 billion in assets under management and strengthens the firm's position in the institutional credit market. The transaction will transfer management of 31 CLOs previously overseen by LCM Asset Management to Clearlake Credit, the firm's credit investing platform. Following the acquisition, Clearlake Credit's assets under management will increase to approximately $39 billion across liquid credit, private credit and customized credit strategies. The deal marks another step in Clearlake's effort to broaden its credit capabilities as institutional investors continue allocating capital across a wider range of private and public credit products. By adding an established CLO portfolio, the firm expands its presence in the leveraged loan market while increasing the scale of its liquid credit platform. Clearlake said the acquisition enhances its ability to serve institutional investors seeking diversified credit exposure and complements its existing private credit and structured credit offerings. The firm also noted that the transaction supports its strategy of delivering risk-adjusted returns across varying market environments while strengthening long-term client relationships. The addition of the CLO portfolio increases the breadth of investment solutions available through Clearlake Credit, which has become an increasingly important component of the firm's broader investment platform. Credit managers have benefited from growing demand among pension funds, insurance companies, endowments and other institutional investors seeking yield, diversification and flexible financing solutions. Founded in 2006, Clearlake has evolved into one of the largest alternative asset managers globally, overseeing more than $185 billion in assets under management. The firm invests across private equity, credit, infrastructure, secondaries, co-investments and other private market strategies. Through Pathway Capital Management, a Clearlake company, it also provides institutional and wealth management clients with access to diversified private market investments. Clearlake's investment approach centers on its O.P.S.(R) framework, which emphasizes operational improvement, talent development and strategic execution across portfolio companies. The firm partners with management teams across multiple sectors and typically takes a long-term approach to value creation. The acquisition of the LCM CLO contracts reflects continued consolidation and scale-building within the credit management industry, where firms are increasingly seeking larger platforms and broader product offerings to meet evolving investor demand. Expanding assets under management through established CLO portfolios can provide managers with additional operating scale, deeper investor relationships and greater flexibility across credit market opportunities. Milbank LLP and Dechert LLP served as legal counsel to Clearlake Credit in the transaction. GreensLedge Capital Markets acted as financial adviser to the seller. Headquartered in Santa Monica, California, Clearlake operates 14 offices across the Americas, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The firm said the transaction further strengthens its integrated credit platform and positions it to continue expanding its presence across liquid and private credit markets.
