Every component - from propulsion systems to batteries, optics, instruments, and avionics - must withstand extreme temperatures, launch vibration, vacuum, and years of operation without failure. To help engineers meet these demanding requirements, Minco is introducing a new flexible lead wire encapsulation option for Thermofoil(TM) all-polyimide flexible heaters. This innovative design is available exclusively from Minco and has been approved to NASA S-311-P-841, providing aerospace engineers with a qualified solution for critical spaceflight applications. Built on decades of experience supporting space programs, this new technology simplifies qualification efforts while providing mounting on curved surfaces with improved reliability where it matters most. Developed in Collaboration with NASA Achieving approval for hardware intended for spaceflight requires extensive engineering, testing, and documentation. Minco worked closely with NASA throughout the development and qualification process to ensure the flexible termination encapulation met the requirements of NASA S-311-P-841, the agency's specification governing flexible electric resistance heaters used in spaceflight. This collaborative effort resulted in a lead termination technology that satisfies demanding mechanical and environmental requirements while providing engineers with greater confidence during spacecraft development. Why Lead Terminations Matter While heater performance is often measured by watt density or temperature capability, the lead termination is one of the most critical areas affecting long-term reliability. Traditional rigid lead exits can concentrate mechanical stress where wires leave the heater when mounting on a non-planar surface. During integration, installation, launch vibration, or thermal cycling, these stress concentrations can become potential failure points.
