McQueen returns to London Fashion Week SS27 as Kane debuts Mulberry.

McQueen returns to London Fashion Week SS27 as Kane debuts Mulberry. The Sept. 17 to 21 provisional schedule pairs two marquee homecomings with a slate of NewGen debuts under the British Fashion Council's strategic reset. LONDON - London Fashion Week is wagering that two homecomings can restore its commercial gravity, betting a Sept. 17 to 21 provisional schedule anchored by Alexander McQueen's return and Christopher Kane's Mulberry debut will pull marquee business back from Paris and Milan. "This season marks an exciting moment for London Fashion Week, with the return of leading British brands alongside an exceptional new generation of creative talent," said British Fashion Council chief executive officer Laura Weir in a statement on Friday. "The schedule reflects the confidence and momentum of British fashion today." McQueen's homecoming and Kane's Mulberry debut. The week's headline is McQueen's move back to its founding city. The Kering-owned house will show on home turf under creative director Seán McGirr, a return reportedly pushed by chief executive officer Gianfranco D'Attis, who took the post in June. McGirr, the Irish-born, Central Saint Martins-trained designer who succeeded Sarah Burton in 2023, had been showing the label in Paris. His London turn signals a house realigning itself with the city where founder Lee McQueen trained at the same school. Kane's Mulberry debut carries its own weight. Appointed creative director in March, Kane is steering the leather-goods house's first women's ready-to-wear line since it exited the category in 2020, following the drawn-out closure of his own label in 2023. The show marks Mulberry's first runway appearance since February 2017, and the debut collection is expected to reach stores and online in January 2027. Kane, a Central Saint Martins graduate and longtime LFW stalwart, is working alongside his sister and collaborator Tammy on the project. The best-of-Britain thread runs through the calendar's bookends. Barbour presents on day one, while Burberry closes the week, arriving on the back of a 4 percent first-quarter revenue rise lifted by China and the U.S., per its latest results. The runway roster and the retail ecosystem. The stalwart tier stays intact: Erdem, Simone Rocha, Ashley Williams, Harris Reed, Emilia Wickstead, Knwls, Ahluwalia, Roksanda, Richard Quinn and Natasha Zinko all return to the catwalk. Chopova Lowena stages its annual show after last season's crazy golf presentation. Paolo Carzana and Aaron Esh, the latter of whom also serves as AllSaints' creative director, land as runway highlights. First-timers crowd the lower rungs. Sweden's Petra Fagerström makes her London runway debut, while Francesca Lake and Gui Rosa present for the first time; all three hold NewGen sponsorship backed by Pull&Bear. Returning NewGen recipients include A Letter, Charlie Constantinou, Ewusie, Johanna Parv, Liza Keane, Octi, Oscar Ouyang, Pauline Dujancoourt, Steve O Smith, The Ouze and Yaku. Geordie Campbell, Indian minimalist label Lovebirds and Paul Smith's Foundation alumna Joyce Bao join the mix. Marks & Spencer will mark 100 years in fashion with a co-ed, see-now, buy-now runway show. The retail calendar extends beyond the runway. Dover Street Market stages a jewelry collection, eBay organizes a pre-loved show that can be shopped live, and Selfridges scatters designer spotlights across its flagship. After last year's debut, H&M returns with a reformatted show alongside image-maker Nick Knight. The Weir reset and London's competitive bet. This is the third London season since the BFC reset under Weir, a former journalist whose résumé spans British Vogue, Selfridges and the Evening Standard. Her 2030 strategy recasts the body as a decentralized incubator rather than a London-centric institution. That has already translated into concrete changes: the BFC has waived show fees for designers presenting physically on the main schedule and doubled investment in the London Fashion Week International Guest Program, moves that helped drive an 18 percent increase in on-schedule designers last September. Fashion East, run by founder and director Lulu Kennedy, stays on the schedule after continued BFC investment; last year the council allotted 1.3 million pounds in grants and scholarships across its prizes and programs. "I'm intent on refining the mentoring part so that it includes business resilience," Weir told Vogue Business in March. "You might want a moderate business with a small team that facilitates a low-key lifestyle, or you might want to scale to a multi-million-pound company." The calendar's positioning between New York and Milan, in a slot synchronized with the other fashion councils to avoid overlap, frames the bet. London is trading on cultural capital to win back scale it ceded to rival capitals. Whether McQueen and Mulberry convert that signal into sustained commercial pull is the question the week will test.

Mulberry returns to London Fashion Week after six years with Christopher Kane's debut

Mulberry will return to London Fashion Week in September after a six-year absence, presenting its first ready-to-wear collection designed by Christopher Kane. The show will take place on 20 September, with the collection arriving in stores in January 2027. Kane, appointed creative director of Mulberry's women's ready-to-wear line earlier this year, is a Central Saint Martins graduate known for previous collaborations with Versace and Self-Portrait. The runway return forms part of CEO Andrea Baldo's "Back to the Mulberry Spirit" strategy, focusing on creativity and craft following pandemic-era retrenchment. Mulberry terminated its clothing and footwear licence in 2020 to concentrate on accessories. The company recently posted 5.7 per cent sales growth at constant currency for fiscal 2026.
