CUSMA enters review as businesses push for trade certainty. Ian sinclair. EVP, Commercial Solutions National Logistics Services 150 Courtneypark Drive West Mississauga, Ontario In turbulent economic times, a true logistics partner can scale up, optimize and help your fast-moving enterprise adapt and thrive. NLS Logistics Team June 19, 2026 NLS Logistics Team June 5, 2026 NLS Logistics Team May 22, 2026 Recently in Logistics; CUSMA remains in focus as the agreement enters its annual review, with business groups calling for stronger protections for Canadian trade and greater competitiveness. NLS has also expanded its North American capabilities with the launch of Peakform Logistics, a US-based logistics platform supporting cross-border fulfillment. Canada's retail landscape continues to evolve, with the restructuring of Toys "R" Us Canada marking another shift in the market. The United States declined to renew CUSMA, triggering the agreement's annual review process while it remains in force. U.S. officials said they want to address unresolved trade issues and tariff concerns, while Canada and Mexico continue to support a long-term renewal. The decision extends trade uncertainty, with negotiations expected to continue over the coming months. The CFIB is urging the federal government to protect Canada's CUSMA exemptions while making the agreement easier for small businesses to use. Ongoing tariff uncertainty has weakened Canada-U.S. business relationships, prompting many SMEs to diversify suppliers and customers despite continued trade challenges. The organization is calling for simpler customs processes, clearer rules of origin, and greater consideration of small business needs in future CUSMA negotiations. The Ontario Chamber of Commerce has launched a new Trade & Competitiveness Council to strengthen Ontario's voice ahead of the CUSMA review. The council will focus on improving trade competitiveness, supply chain resilience, investment attraction, and market diversification. It will also monitor CUSMA negotiations and provide recommendations to support Ontario's long-term economic growth. National Logistics Services (NLS) has launched Peakform Logistics, its US-based logistics platform, to strengthen its North American network and help apparel, footwear, and lifestyle brands simplify cross-border fulfillment. Operating from a 283,000-square-foot fulfillment centre in Avon, Indiana, Peakform combines more than 50 years of NLS retail logistics expertise with a strategically located U.S. operation, giving brands the infrastructure to scale retail, wholesale, and e-commerce operations with confidence. Toys "R" Us Canada's restructuring will separate ownership of its brand and store operations, with Ad Populum acquiring the brand while Doug Putman takes over most store assets. Existing stores can continue using the Toys "R" Us name until January 2027, after which their future will depend on new licensing agreements or rebranding. The restructuring keeps stores operating for now but leaves the long-term future of the iconic retail banner uncertain. Are your logistics needs being addressed?
