National Safety Council joins OSHA National SIF Prevention Alliance. Sep 30, 2026, 15:24 ET New Alliance program will help employers identify high-risk hazards and prevent serious incidents and fatalities WASHINGTON, Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - The National Safety Council today announced its participation in the National Serious Injury and Fatality Prevention Alliance, a collaborative initiative formed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to reduce incidents and deaths in the workplace by providing employers with training and resources to help identify and eliminate high-risk hazards. The Alliance establishes a partnership between OSHA, NSC and several other organizations working to advance serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention, including the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and the University of Colorado Boulder's Construction Safety Research Alliance (CSRA). "For more than half a century, the National Safety Council and OSHA have worked together to prevent injuries and save lives in our nation's workplaces. The National SIF Prevention Alliance represents a historic evolution in how we achieve that shared mission. As we move together toward proactively addressing the conditions that can lead to the most serious outcomes, we can begin to prevent tragedies before they occur," said Lorraine Martin, NSC CEO. "Preventing serious incidents and fatalities requires a deliberate focus on the risks with the greatest potential to cause harm. By bringing together OSHA, NSC and leading safety organizations, this Alliance can help employers turn knowledge into action and ultimately save lives." Building on the Council's broader commitment to advance SIF prevention, the National SIF Prevention Alliance unites safety organizations and stakeholders to advance the identification and prevention of SIFs in the workplace. Participants will collaborate to develop and disseminate SIF prevention resources, effective practices, training and practical solutions for employers, workers and safety professionals. Industry safety organizations recognize Georgia-Pacific for excellence and Innovation. Friday, September 11th, 2026 Georgia-Pacific is committed to ensuring team members go home after their shift the same way they arrived at work. Many safety solutions implemented at our facilities are the result of collaboration among employees using their knowledge and skillset, along with innovative technology, to make our operations safer. One such tool, Omni Pro, uses AI camera technology to help protect vulnerable users in manufacturing settings from accidents with industrial trucks. This safety solution recently earned Georgia-Pacific recognition from the National Safety Council (NSC) during its 2026 NSC Safety Summit awards ceremony. Each year, the NSC honors two companies with its Networks Catalyst in Safety Award for developing and implementing innovative approaches to long-standing safety challenges. At our corrugated facility in Denton, Texas, Georgia-Pacific team members also worked to better identify hazards and protect pedestrians. One significant risk identified at the site was a mobile equipment and pedestrian (MOPED) interaction in the parking lot entrance where employees and visitors cross active shipping lanes to enter the site. Team members installed an automated pedestrian crossing system with gates, crossing arms and signal lights. The system keeps pedestrian pathways open by default and automatically restricts access when trucks enter the area, allowing safer controlled movement for both pedestrians and vehicles. This safety initiative earned the company recognition from the Fibre Box Association for a second year in a row with the Innovation in Safety Achievement Award. Georgia-Pacific empowers employees at every level within our organization to identify areas where risks exist and contribute to solutions that better address those hazards. Recognition by organizations such as the Fibre Box Association and the National Safety Council is a testament to the contributions and impact our teams have on our organization's safety initiatives and commitment to helping share ways others can improve safety throughout our industry.
