Sep 17, 2026, 08:15 ET * The $10 million Drive the Legacy Fund creates sustainable, long-term investment in HBCU success * Grants will focus on infrastructure, technology and core institutional needs * Honda has supported HBCU schools for nearly 40 years TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 17, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - The Honda USA Foundation today announced the creation of the Drive the Legacy Fund, a new endowment fund building on the longstanding commitment of Honda to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) by providing a long-term source of sustainable support. The $10 million Fund will support core institutional needs at HBCUs through investments in infrastructure, technology, and institutional capacity. "The Drive the Legacy Fund enhances the nearly 40-year commitment of Honda to creating lasting impact and ensuring educational opportunities for HBCU students," said Marcos Frommer, executive director of the Honda USA Foundation. "By investing in the foundational needs of HBCUs, we can help these institutions strengthen their operations, modernize critical infrastructure and position themselves for sustained success for generations to come." About the New Drive the Legacy Fund The Drive the Legacy Fund was created to address persistent challenges facing many HBCUs. The Honda USA Foundation combined stakeholder engagement, research, and institutional needs assessments to identify common themes across HBCU campuses, including: * Chronic underfunding and capital investment gaps * Aging physical infrastructure * Digital and technology infrastructure deficits * Faculty recruitment and retention challenges * Infrastructure & Technology, including facilities repair and modernization, digital systems and connectivity, cybersecurity improvements, and smart-campus technologies. * Institutional Capacity, including faculty recruitment and retention, administrative and operational capacity, professional development opportunities, and initiatives that strengthen institutional effectiveness. Institutional grants are expected to range from $100,000 to $250,000 annually, with awards available for up to two years to support transformational projects that strengthen institutional operations. The Fund will begin with a focus on accredited four-year HBCU institutions located within states where Honda has major operations and a strong community presence. The Drive the Legacy Fund will launch in March 2027 with a competitive Letter of Intent process to assess alignment with the Fund's priorities. Following review, selected institutions will be invited to submit full grant applications for competitive funding consideration. Honda Commitment to Historically Black Colleges and Universities Honda has supported the success and dreams of HBCU students for nearly 40 years, through programs such as the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge, Drive the Legacy Initiative, and Honda Battle of the Bands. These initiatives have impacted the lives of more than 350,000 students and provided over $16 million in grants toward HBCU education programs and facilities improvements. NUL invites Nashville entrepreneurs to the Small Business Matters Entrepreneurship Summit. By Ronald Weathersby NASHVILLE, TN - Local and national business owners are invited to attend the National Urban League's Small Business Matters Entrepreneurship Summit and be a part of a full day dedicated to workshops, networking, and valuable resources aimed at supporting small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs in launching, growing, and flourishing. The Summit takes place Saturday, August 1 at the Music City Center from 8 am until 5 pm. "We are focused on assisting everyone. It's the Small Business Matters Entrepreneurship Summit, and we are focused on a broader definition of the businesses we serve," explained Stephanie DeVayne, NUL vice president. When asked what size business is considered "small" by the NUL, Devine said, "So it [the size of the business] doesn't have to be the typical government size, small business. To be honest, most of its businesses in its communities are small. That's how they start and its goal of course is to evolve existing or start-up enterprises into multi-employer firms. So, Tntribune is open to any and all businesses that want to come. You could be a $2 million business, or you could be a startup that hasn't started your business, and you will be welcomed at its summit. "Tntribune has curated a diverse lineup of speakers who will lead engaging sessions filled with invaluable tips and insights that are essential for every entrepreneur on their journey to building a successful business. Once the summit begins, there are nine sessions attendees can attend. DeVayne said that each track will have three concurrent sessions. "We have a startup track, which is zero to two years in business. We have a growth track, which is two to five years in business, and we have an accelerated track, which is five plus years." The long-awaited Urban Civil Rights Museum will officially open its doors on Saturday, November 14, 2026, marking a historic milestone as New York City's first museum dedicated exclusively to the history of the Civil Rights Movement and the Black experience in the Northern United States. National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial made the announcement during his remarks at the Abolition Commemoration Day Program in Downtown Brooklyn on Monday, July 13. Speaking in a subsequent interview, Morial said the museum will be housed within the Urban League Empowerment Center, the National Urban League's new headquarters in Harlem. "It will be the first ever Civil Rights Museum in history in New York City," Morial said. "It will chronicle the Black and the Civil Rights experience of the Northern States all the way back to the 1500s coming up to the present." The museum will explore pivotal chapters of American history, including the Harlem Renaissance, the Great Migration, and the Abolitionist movement, highlighting the significant role Northern states, and New York in particular, played in the nation's ongoing struggle for freedom and equality. According to Morial, the museum represents the culmination of approximately 15 years of planning, fundraising, and operational development. "This project has been a longtime in the making," he said, noting that reaching the opening stage reflects years of dedication and collaboration by supporters, historians, and community leaders. The Urban Civil Rights Museum will be led by Executive Director and Chief Curator Jennifer Scott, who has overseen the development of exhibitions designed to immerse visitors in the stories of Black Americans through a blend of historical artifacts and modern technology."We've worked hard to make great use of a combination of artifacts and multimedia to tell the story without reservation and hesitation and with complete authenticity," Morial said Among the museum's signature features will be a rotating gallery, allowing exhibits to change periodically and present new narratives throughout the year.
