Overview

Neighborhood Charter Schools runs a network of public charter schools in Harlem and the Bronx that serve grades K–8 with an inclusive approach and individualized supports. The schools use a co-teaching model with two teachers in every classroom to help students of all abilities, including about 15% on the autism spectrum. The curriculum emphasizes reading and math foundations in K–4 (using programs like Success for All, Lavinia RedThread, and Illustrative Mathematics) and builds advanced reading, writing, and a Math Workshop approach in 5–8, plus daily science, arts enrichment, SHSAT prep, and after-school supports. The goal is to provide new educational opportunities to a diverse student body by fostering academic skills and social-emotional development to prepare students for high school and beyond.
