Daniel Ek's body-scanning startup Neko Health opens first US office, in New York. Neko Health's promised U.S. expansion arrives on September 24, when the health-scanning startup opens its first American office. It will be located in SoHo, Manhattan's home of luxury shopping, at 300 Lafayette Street. Neko was founded by Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek and Hjalmar Nilsonne, who serves as Neko's CEO. The company says that more than 25,000 New Yorkers have joined a waitlist. As we previously reported, Neko Health has developed proprietary body-scanning technology, which it pairs with bloodwork and data from fitness devices to assess a person's health. Currently, the startup has locations in the U.K. and Sweden. When it raised a $700 million Series C last month, it said that 100,000 people already had scans. Neko is among a growing number of health scanning companies created by tech founders or backed by VCs. For instance, Midjourney, the AI lab best known for its AI image and video creation model and website, is also creating a body scanner, which it plans to integrate into a spa experience. It plans to open in San Francisco in 2027. Tony Robbins and Peter Diamandis also have a longevity company called Fountain Life that does scans and health assessments. Function Health, co-founded by well-known wellness podcaster Dr. Mark Hyman, offers blood testing, and it added body scans after acquiring the startup Ezra. Function just took on a $450 million loan from General Catalyst's Customer Value Fund, where companies repay the money via profit-sharing arrangements. October 13 - 15 San Francisco Scale faster. Neko Health is expanding into the United States with its first clinic in SoHo, New York, scheduled to open on 24 September 2026.
Neko Health raises $700M to bring ai-powered full body scans to the US. 2026-07-18 by AICC Neko Health has raised $700 million to expand its AI-powered body scan service in the United States, beginning with a new clinic in New York. The company's preventive screening model integrates medical imaging, blood tests, proprietary sensors, and clinician review into a single appointment. The Series C round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and co-led by O.G. Venture Partners. Existing investors Atomico, General Catalyst, and Lakestar participated, alongside new backers including Liberty City Ventures, Positive Sum, and BDT & MSD. David Ofer of O.G. Venture Partners will join Neko's board, subject to regulatory approval. The latest round brings Neko's total disclosed funding since 2023 to more than $1 billion - following a $65 million Series A in 2023 and a $260 million raise in January 2025. The round also included personal investments from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, former tennis player Maria Sharapova, musician will.i.am, and former footballer Thierry Henry. Existing individual investors include Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and actress Zoë Saldaña. How Neko Health's AI body scans work. Neko operates clinics that combine full-body scans, blood tests, artificial intelligence, and custom-built medical equipment. The service screens customers for potential signs of conditions including skin cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. The company describes the scan as a 60-minute, non-invasive, and radiation-free health assessment. It uses proprietary sensors and blood analysis to examine: * Skin conditions and abnormalities * Blood abnormalities and pre-diabetes indicators * Risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome, stroke, and heart attack * Electrocardiogram (ECG) and arterial measurements * Body-composition analysis * More than 2,000 high-resolution images used to map a customer's skin Blood samples are processed on-site, enabling results to be reviewed during the same visit. Findings are then discussed during an in-person consultation with a medical professional. Editorial note: Many measurements offered by Neko - including blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, ECG data, and skin assessments - are already available through conventional healthcare. Neko's model consolidates these with proprietary imaging and on-site processing. However, no comparative study was found in the company's public materials demonstrating that this combined approach improves clinical outcomes versus established preventive-care pathways. US expansion plans. Neko confirmed that the funding will support the launch of clinics in New York and other US cities, though additional locations and a detailed schedule have not been announced. A waitlist for the New York clinic is available on the company's website. US pricing has not been disclosed. The company currently operates eight clinics across the UK and Sweden, including locations in Stockholm, Manchester, Birmingham, and four London sites: Marylebone, Spitalfields, Covent Garden, and Victoria. 🇬🇧 UK Price £299 🇸🇪 Sweden Price 2,750 SEK (~$285) 🇺🇸 US Price Not yet disclosed Neko says it has completed 100,000 scans since its 2023 launch, with more than 350,000 people having registered or joined a waitlist. According to the company, 75% of customers book and prepay for a follow-up scan at the end of their appointment. Note: Public information reviewed for this article does not include evidence establishing whether annual screening is the appropriate interval for every age group or risk profile. US regulation and access. FDA records show that two of Neko's internally developed devices received clearance through the agency's 510(k) pathway in May 2026: * Derma-2 - cleared as an adjunctive telethermographic system * Spectrum-2 - cleared as a tissue-saturation oximeter for cardiovascular measurements Important: These clearances apply to the specified devices and their stated intended uses - not to the complete Neko Health Scan as a single FDA-approved screening service. Neko describes its US clinics as preventive health and wellness providers, not full-service medical practices. Its privacy notice advises customers to continue seeing existing clinicians for diagnoses and treatment, including for any conditions identified through a Neko scan. Neko's US clinics do not currently participate in health insurance plans, and most services are not covered by insurers. Customers are expected to pay directly for their initial assessment. The company has not disclosed what customers would pay for any follow-up diagnostic tests or treatment through external providers, nor whether employers or insurers will subsidise access. Questions over clinical evidence. Publicly available information reviewed for this article does not include a completed peer-reviewed study validating the full screening service. A study registered on ClinicalTrials.gov is evaluating Neko's multimodal skin-imaging technology for screening and diagnostic-support applications, including skin cancer and Raynaud's phenomenon - but the trial is ongoing and does not establish the clinical performance of the complete scan. Neko's public materials do not disclose: * The rate of false-positive findings * How many customers undergo additional procedures as a result * How many flagged abnormalities are later deemed clinically unimportant * A full breakdown of which measurements rely on AI vs. conventional software vs. direct clinical assessment The company's US privacy notice identifies an AI dictation system used to summarise medical records, scan data, and clinical conversations, and to draft reports. Neko states that clinicians review all AI-generated reports. Neko's reported health-outcome data is based on 1,469 customers who completed a second scan approximately one year after their first, at its Stockholm clinics. The company reported improvements in blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar, with body weight remaining broadly stable. Neko acknowledged this was not a scientific study and did not include a control group. Customers may have started treatment or changed behaviour between scans. The data only covers customers who returned for a second privately purchased scan, and no demographic breakdown was published comparing that group with Neko's wider customer base or the general population. Company background. Neko Health was founded in 2018 by Spotify co-founder Daniel Ek and CEO Hjalmar Nilsonne. The company operated largely outside public view until its service launched in 2023. Nilsonne said part of the new capital will fund continued research and development into preventive screening technology. Neko recently added body-composition measurements and clinician reviews of wearable-device data across its clinics, and introduced updated versions of its Derma, Echo, and Spectrum medical devices - covering skin, heart function, and circulation data. The company says newer equipment captures a larger volume of health data and automates more of the scanning process. The company did not disclose its valuation following the latest round. The Financial Times, citing unnamed sources, reported that Neko is now valued at approximately $7 billion.
