More than 200 carers honoured at Staffordshire care awards. By Staffordshire County Council Published 29th Sep 2026, 09:27 BST Carers from across Staffordshire were recognised at the annual Dignity in Care Awards in Stafford. More than 200 paid and unpaid carers gathered at the Staffordshire County Showground to celebrate the winners of this year's Dignity in Care Awards. The awards, organised by Staffordshire County Council, are now in their 12th year and recognise people working across the adult social care sector. Nine categories were presented, with winners recognised for putting dignity and respect at the centre of their work. Tinga Umera, from Nexus Care Services, won the Registered Manager Dignity Champion Award. Hema Mungroo, who runs Havenly Adult Day Care Centre in Heath Hayes, received the Long Service Dignity Champion Award after being recognised for more than 20 years supporting older people. She said: "It's a really nice feeling to be recognised for what we do, especially in day care. The best bit is allowing people to live at home, particularly people who are on a dementia journey, and still enjoy their life with dignity because of the support we give." Other winners included Amy Jones of Independence at Home, Danielle Pearce of Home Instead Cannock and Burntwood, Karen Hurmson, the team at Saltbank Court in Stafford, Philippa Turnock of Hawthorn House in Lichfield, Jonathon Veitch of Home Instead Cannock and Burntwood, and Joseph Birkin of Independence at Home. The event was hosted by BBC Midlands Today presenter Rebecca Harper and took place on Thursday, September 24. Awards were presented by representatives including Jan Burns MBE, chief executive of The National Dignity Council, Suzanne Petrie from Skills for Care, and Staffordshire County Council's director for health and care Dr Richard Harling.
