Nexxa.ai, a Sunnyvale-based startup developing specialised AI technologies for heavy industries, has raised $9 million in a funding round led by Construct Capital, with participation from a16z and other investors. The company's total funding now stands at $14 million. The startup's platform, Nitro, integrates AI capabilities into existing engineering tools used in rail, construction and manufacturing sectors, enabling modernisation without replacing current infrastructure. Nexxa.ai partners with organisations including Siemens and Matikon to deliver its solutions. Co-founder and CEO Philipp Wehn emphasised AI's potential to strengthen the industrial economy's foundation. The company has demonstrated rapid adoption and measurable returns on investment across heavy industry sectors, with significant revenue growth expected in the coming year.
Investing in Nexxa.ai: bringing specialized AI to the industrial backbone. The AI conversation has largely focused on consumer applications and white-collar productivity. But the industries that keep the world running, including rail, construction, manufacturing, energy, and critical infrastructure, remain one of the most underpenetrated frontiers for applied AI. Industrial engineering is one of the last major blank spots in applied AI. These are high-stakes, non-standard workflows where errors are costly, legacy software is deeply entrenched, and the talent gap continues to widen as experienced engineers retire faster than they can be replaced. This is the gap that Nexxa.ai was built to address. Led by Philipp Wehn, David Huang, and a deeply technical, industry-native team, Nexxa is bringing specialized AI directly into the tools and workflows industrial engineers already rely on. From its earliest conversations, Philipp and the team stood out for their rare combination of deep industrial domain expertise, operational credibility, and ambition to tackle some of the hardest problems in software. At Untapped Ventures, this is exactly where Untapped focus: backing agentic technologies that bring real leverage to underserved, mission-critical markets. That conviction is what led Untapped to invest early in Nexxa.ai - and why Untapped is proud to continue supporting the team as they scale. Its investment in Nexxa.ai. Untapped first invested in Nexxa at the pre-seed stage, backing the team when they were just beginning to prove that specialized AI could operate directly inside the complex digital environments industrial engineers rely on every day. In 2024, Nexxa raised a $4.4M pre-seed round driven by a16z speedrun, with participation from institutional and industrial-focused investors including augment Ventures, propeller Ventures, plug and play, beat Ventures, SBI, Untapped Ventures, and cross atlantic angels. The company was also selected for a16z speedrun badge 5, reinforcing early conviction in the team and their approach. What mattered most to Untapped, however, was what came next. Nexxa quickly translated early validation into real deployments across heavy industry, delivering measurable ROI and fast time to value in environments long considered too complex or too risky to modernize. This week, Nexxa announced a $9M Seed round, led by construct capital, with significant participation from a16z speedrun and continued support from existing investors, including Untapped Ventures. with this round, Nexxa has now raised $14M total. Untapped chose to re-invest in the Seed round because the team consistently delivered what matters most to Untapped as investors: real customer traction, fast deployment timelines, and clear evidence that their platform creates meaningful operating leverage in complex industrial environments. AI that works inside real industrial workflows. Rather than forcing costly "rip-and-replace" transformations, Nexxa's platform runs on top of existing engineering tools, embedding AI directly into the workflows engineers already use and trust. At the core of the platform is Nexxa Nitro, a multi-agent orchestration system that allows specialized AI agents to operate safely, explainably, and compliantly inside real production environments. These agents can interpret engineering documents, reason through complex schematics, and execute work directly within thick-client applications like AutoCAD - much like a human engineer would. This approach is already gaining traction across rail, construction, manufacturing, and critical infrastructure, with enterprise customers including Siemens and Matikon, additional customers under NDA, and availability through the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace. Nexxa's forward-deployed engineering model enables teams to see measurable ROI in weeks, without disrupting mission-critical systems. Why Untapped is excited to continue backing Nexxa. Nexxa is led by founders who deeply understand both industrial systems and modern AI. CEO and co-founder Philipp Wehn brings years of experience across rail, automotive, and building-technology supply chains, while CTO and co-founder David "DH" Huang adds decades of experience across infrastructure, cybersecurity, and large-scale systems from companies including TSMC and IronKey. At Untapped Ventures, Untapped back founders building agentic technologies that solve real-world problems in markets that matter. Nexxa exemplifies that mission. Untapped is proud to have supported the team early, and even more excited to continue backing them as they bring specialized AI into the heart of heavy industry.
Nexxa.ai raises $9M to streamline the world's industrial backbone with AI. Nexxa.ai Inc. announced today that it has raised $9 million in seed funding led by Construct Capital, with significant participation from a16z and existing investors, to help heavy industry engineers modernize their software stack. Launched in 2024, the company builds specialized AI agents for heavy industries and engineers who design rail networks, factories, construction projects, heavy machinery, transportation systems and more. Nexxa said many rely on fragmented ecosystems of homegrown software and manual processes to get work done. Instead of replacing existing engineering tools, Nexxa said, its platform sits on top of existing ecosystems to support engineers in modernizing core infrastructure. "Everyone talks about AI disrupting white-collar work," said co-founder and Chief Executive Philipp Wehn. "The real opportunity is strengthening the backbone of the economy." Wehn explained that today's world is being built on the back of native AI systems, which are becoming more integrated and modernized. "America is in a race to rebuild heavy industry," he added. Nitro, Nexa's multi-agent orchestration platform, enables the company's engineers to specialize and deliver highly resilient, complex AI into the core of heavy-industry workflows. The heavy industry engineering sector market is vast. The global market estimated to be about $1.9 trillion to $2.1 trillion in 2023 to 2024, growing toward $3.2 trillion in 2031, according to a report from Cognitive Market Research. The market itself is evolving rapidly under the influence of digital transformation from the internet of things, robotics, AI, big data and cloud technologies. Together, these processes are better known as "Industry 4.0," a revolution bringing about automation, high-speed data exchange and real-time decision-making. That's leading to greatly enhanced production through data-driven insights and improved human-machine collaboration. Nexxa said it sees the industrial base as balanced at an inflection point, where industry-specific AI can enable agents to handle nonstandard, high-complexity work with heavy industry for humans. Nitro orchestrates agents through a rule-based management console, keeping work compliant and explainable, while engineers oversee and accelerate missions. The company has already signed on with multiple big industry enterprise partners, including Siemens AG, Matikon Group and others that are still under nondisclosure agreements. The platform is also available through the Siemens Xcelerator Marketplace.
