Niantic builds augmented reality (AR) games and the Lightship platform to blend digital experiences with the real world. Its products let players discover and interact with virtual content overlaid onto real locations, encouraging movement, exploration, and social activity. Lightship is an AR engine that supports large-scale, shared AR experiences and can be used by other developers to create their own AR apps, providing a second revenue stream beyond pure games. Niantic differentiates itself with a strong emphasis on location-based, socially connected outdoor play, partnerships with local businesses for in-game sponsorships, and a clear monetization path through in-app purchases and licensing. The company aims to expand outdoor AR experiences, grow its global community of players, and broaden access to AR technology for developers and partners.

ImagineAR CEO Alen Paul Silverrstieen expressed disappointment with the ruling and announced plans to appeal the decision to the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Separately, the company announced that Gurdip Panaich has resigned as a director.
