Nippon Express

Global freight forwarding and logistics provider

Overview

Nippon Express Holdings is a global logistics provider that moves goods by sea, air, and land, handling items from small components to large equipment and sensitive pharmaceuticals. Its services include freight forwarding, customs clearance, warehousing, and end-to-end supply-chain solutions across a network in more than 50 countries. The company operates through the NX brand after shifting to a holding company structure in 2022, leveraging an extensive global network and strategic acquisitions to offer integrated logistics services. Compared with competitors, Nippon Express distinguishes itself through its scale as one of the world’s largest freight forwarders, its long government-led origin and privatization history, and its active expansion through acquisitions like cargo-partner (2024) and Metro Supply Chain Group (planned 2026) to broaden its global reach. The company's goal is to become a dominant global logistics player by its 100th anniversary in 2037.

NX Group invests in ElevationSpace to build space-to-Earth cargo transport network

NX Group, the parent company of Nippon Express, has invested in ElevationSpace, a Japanese startup developing space-to-Earth transport services, through its NX Global Innovation Investment Limited Partnership. Founded in February 2021, ElevationSpace is developing re-entry capsules including the ELS-R for microgravity experiments and the ELS-RS for transporting supplies from private space stations. The company plans to launch Aoba, Japan's first private-sector re-entry satellite, in late 2026 or after. The partnership aims to establish "last mile" space logistics by combining ElevationSpace's retrieval technology with NX Group's global logistics expertise. Services will include pre- and post-launch transport, customs clearance and delivery of retrieved items to final destinations. With the International Space Station scheduled to end operations in 2030, the collaboration addresses growing demand for new space transport infrastructure.

NX Germany opens Dresden branch to boost logistics.

NX Germany opens Dresden branch to boost logistics. Nippon Express (Deutschland) GmbH & Co. KG, a group company of Japan's Nippon Express Holdings, Inc., has opened a new branch in Dresden, Germany, to strengthen its logistics service infrastructure - centered on air and ocean freight - for customers in the semiconductor industry as well as in the high-tech, machinery, automotive, trading retail and other sectors, according to a press release. The state of saxony, where Dresden is located, is known as one of Europe's leading hubs for the semiconductor and other advanced technology industries, and it has attracted numerous global companies from these sectors. With investment in high-value-added fields becoming increasingly active in recent years, logistics demand is expected to grow further. Given this business environment, NX Germany has designated the region a strategic hub with high growth potential and established the Dresden Branch to provide prompt and detailed proposals and support from a location close to customers. The Dresden Branch will primarily handle air and ocean freight, meeting global transport needs not only within Europe but also across Asia, North America, the Middle East and India. "High-value-added logistics services will be provided in particular to industries such as semiconductors that demands high-quality control by combining locally-based sales and customer support with the NX Group's global network," NX said.
