Why Retail Media's core playbook is breaking beyond the digital shelf.

Why Retail Media's core playbook is breaking beyond the digital shelf. Posted on September 2, 2026 A decade ago, retail media barely existed as a line item on corporate ad budgets. Today, with U.S. retail media spending projected by EMARKETER to hit $69.3 billion in 2026 and on track to anchor a $142.1 billion commerce media market by 2030, the channel has solidified itself as the fastest-growing sector in modern advertising. However, the explosive growth of retail media networks (RMNs) is exposing a major structural bottleneck: digital sponsored product listings are approaching saturation. On-site retail search units face diminishing marginal returns as bidding competition escalates. To sustain double-digit growth rates, enterprise commerce media networks must look beyond mobile screens and ecommerce web apps toward physical, real-world touchpoints. Today's appointment of Adam Skinner, the former Chief Operating Officer of CitrusAd and Managing Director of Retail Media at Epsilon, as Chief Executive Officer of out-of-home (OOH) media platform Onescreen marks a clear turning point for the category. Skinner, who helped scale CitrusAd from fewer than 10 clients to over 150 global retailers prior to its acquisition by Publicis Groupe's Epsilon, spent fifteen years building the underlying architecture that made digital retail shelves buyable, comparable, and provable. His pivot to physical space signals that the "off-site" commerce media frontier is moving directly out-of-home. The core challenge facing off-site retail media expansion has historically been operational fragmentation. While on-site digital media offers instant platform access, physical spaces have been bogged down by manual transactions and disconnected media sellers. By introducing automated supply-side consolidation, commerce marketers can now treat real-world placements as seamless extensions of their digital ad stacks. "Retail media didn't win because shoppers suddenly fell in love with sponsored listings. It won because someone made fragmented inventory buyable, impressions comparable, and outcomes provable," said Skinner. "Out-of-home has better inventory than retail media ever had, but it has lacked that connective infrastructure. Budgets follow legibility, not enthusiasm. What drew me to Onescreen is that the hard part is already done - the team has made real-world media plannable and accountable on the front end, before the money leaves the account. Extending that into retail and commerce media, right as the standards arrive and the budgets line up behind them, is the most interesting problem in media today." For CPGs, D2C brands, and retail media network operators, applying supply-side retail media standards to out-of-home media lets physical campaigns placed right outside retail store doors be activated with the same data rigor and automated ease as digital shelf units. As physical and digital commerce continue to merge into unified omnichannel strategies, running the 2020 retail media supply playbook in physical space may be the key to unlocking the next $70 billion in commerce media growth.

Big news: commerce media veteran Adam Skinner joins Onescreen as CEO.

Big news: commerce media veteran Adam Skinner joins Onescreen as CEO. September 2, 2026 Chelsea Waite Let's be honest: nobody falls in love with advertising because they saw a sponsored search result for laundry detergent. Retail media didn't explode into a $70B industry because consumers suddenly craved more product listings. It won because smart builders fixed the plumbing behind the scenes, turning a messy web of fragmented store inventory into something seamless, measurable, and insanely easy to buy. Out-of-Home (OOH) media is sitting on the exact same goldmine. Real-world advertising has the attention, the high-impact screens, and record-breaking momentum ($9.5B and 20 straight quarters of growth!). But for too long, buying a billboard or a digital screen network has felt like booking a flight in 1995: scattered spreadsheets, manual emails, and fragmented networks. OneScreen AI, Inc. is here to fix the plumbing. And to pull it off, OneScreen AI, Inc. just brought on someone who literally wrote the playbook. Say Hello to Its New CEO: Adam Skinner Adam joins Onescreen as Chief Executive Officer to help OneScreen AI, Inc. scale modern OOH and build the bridge between real-world media and enterprise digital budgets. If his name sounds familiar, it's because he's spent the last decade-plus architecting high-growth infrastructure across the media landscape: * CitrusAd: He joined as part of an early engineering team with under 10 clients and helped scale it to 150+ global retailers across 30+ countries before its acquisition by Publicis Groupe's Epsilon. * Epsilon: As Managing Director of Retail Media, he ran P&L across commercial, product, tech, and ops for a 200+ person team while shaping identity-powered commerce media. * Industry Heavyweight: He sits on multiple IAB committees, was recently honored with a 2026 P2PI Retail Media Award, and has helped launch over 150 global media networks. Simply put, Adam knows how to turn messy physical infrastructure into a predictable, high-performing growth engine. "Out-of-home has better inventory than retail media ever had, but it has lacked connective infrastructure. Budgets follow legibility, not enthusiasm. What drew me to Onescreen is that the team has made real-world media plannable and accountable on the front end, before the money leaves the account." - Adam Skinner, CEO Why Now? Performance Media Belongs in the Physical World This milestone comes at a time when Onescreen is moving fast. Coming off a 67% growth sprint in late 2025, OneScreen AI, Inc. posted a 68% YoY revenue increase in Q1 2026. Modern brands, from high-growth powerhouses like Rippling, Ramp, and Replit to direct-to-consumer icons like Hexclad, are no longer treating OOH as an experimental "brand awareness" line item. They're using it as a permanent performance channel. OneScreen AI, Inc. has doubled down on that vision, launching everything from audience intelligence tools to an AI-native planning experience that plugs real-world inventory directly into enterprise AI workflows. With Adam at the helm, OneScreen AI, Inc. is taking that foundation and pouring gasoline on it. OneScreen AI, Inc. also want to extend a massive thank you to Alex Ewing for his leadership since 2023, setting the stage for this next chapter of hyper-growth. The physical world is officially legible, measurable, and performance-ready. OneScreen AI, Inc. couldn't be more excited to have Adam leading the charge.
