Opennote is an AI-powered learning platform that lets students upload notes, slides, and textbook content, which it converts into interactive quizzes, videos, and collaborative whiteboards using an AI tutor named Feynman. The app processes uploaded materials and the tutor analyzes a user’s learning style to offer proactive guidance and real-time feedback inside the note-taking interface. It differentiates itself by combining intelligent tutoring with social, collaborative features, turning static material into an engaging, tailored learning experience rather than a plain note app or LMS. Its goal is to help undergraduates learn more effectively, expand internationally, and grow the team with new engineers, supported by YC backing and its investors.

Reducto has acquired AI learning platform Opennote to expand its document intelligence capabilities, the companies announced this week. Financial terms were not disclosed. Founded in 2023, Reducto develops tools combining optical character recognition with vision-language models to convert unstructured files into AI-readable data. The company raised $75 million in a Series B round led by Andreessen Horowitz last year, bringing total funding to over $100 million. Opennote, launched earlier this year, offered AI-powered learning tools for students, including personalised tutoring and note organisation. The platform had attracted over 50,000 users. The acquisition strengthens Reducto's work on "document agents", AI systems designed to interpret and act on large volumes of unstructured information. The Opennote team will join immediately to develop products focused on extraction and AI workflow integration.
Opennote, an edtech startup based in Guelph, Ontario, and Irvine, California, has raised $850k USD for its education personalization platform. The funding round, led by Afore Capital, closed in April. Opennote's three student founders have also secured a spot in Y Combinator's Summer 2025 batch, receiving an additional $125k USD. The company plans to expand from California's Bay Area and aims to hire more staff post-Y Combinator.
