PetSmart readies for grand opening. Emporia, KS, USA / KVOE Aug 2, 2026 | 4:32 PM PetSmart opens in northwest Emporia this month. The newest store at Emporia Pavilions has posted signage indicating a soft opening Aug 17 and a grand open Aug 22. PetSmart now has over 1,500 stores in the United States, including more than 10 in Kansas. PetSmart becomes the 8th retail store at Pavilions over the last 9 years. Hobby Lobby was the initial tenant in 2017, followed by Marshall's, Ross Dress for Less and Shoe Dept Encore in 2022 and 2023. Five Below and Old Navy opened in 2024 and Ulta Beauty opened earlier this year. PetSmart's local presence begins as another pet supply retailer, Petsense, has been announced as trimming nearly a third of its US storefronts, including the Emporia store at Flinthills Mall. Flinthills Mall management has met with Petsense's agent in hopes of keeping the local store open.

(KSEE/KGPE) - At Fancher Creek, southeast Fresno's newest shopping center, construction continues on multiple new additions to the growing development. As the area is set to welcome its first Home Goods, set for a grand opening on July 30, Your Central Valley talked to local shoppers to get their thoughts. "I feel like I come now every day. They're taking my money," laughed Yovana Gonzalez, who has lived in the area for 6 years. "It has been very convenient, and I just can't wait for them to continue expanding." That expansion has come quickly. The Home Goods will be just the latest addition to the shopping center's growing roster. "We've opened up the largest Target in Fresno there, Sprouts has opened, and PetSmart has opened. And of course, the favorite In-N-Out Burger. So, that's been really great and welcoming for that area," said Tracy Kashin, Senior VP of marketing & public relations for Lance-Kashian Co., which manages Fancher Creek, Campus Pointe, and River Park. And Kashian says that's not all that's on the way. A new US Bank location is currently under construction, with the walls up, next to what will be a Chipotle. Kashian says a Michael's is also set to arrive soon between Home Goods and PetSmart. North of the Tulare roundabout is set to hold even more. "It will eventually be like the Shops at River Park, with a movie theater, smaller tenants, restaurants, that sort of thing," she said. Those who live nearby say they waited for this kind of investment in southeast for a long time and can't wait to limit the mileage on their car even more. "I've lived in this area for over six years, and it has been amazing. Just, I think, not having to go out of the way like a 15, 20-minute drive, sometimes even more with traffic," Gonzalez said. "It's great. I mean, you know, any time you can take the shortcut in life, or you can go somewhere where it's not so far, where you can get a lot of things done in a short amount of time. That's what it's all about," added Bobby Jones, who has lived in the area for 22 years. For those looking to check out Home Goods sooner than the 30th, Kashian says they plan to hold a soft opening July 28.
