Phelps Health CEO Jason Shenefield named to Becker's "Community Hospital CEOs to Know" List. August 12, 2026 ROLLA, Mo. - Phelps Health President and CEO Jason Shenefield has been named to Becker's Hospital Review's list of "240 Community Hospital CEOs to Know" for 2026. Becker's Healthcare developed the annual list based on nominations and editorial research. Becker's describes the leaders recognized as community stewards, strategic visionaries and patient advocates who are focused on advancing healthcare, strengthening their organizations and improving the health of the communities they serve. Shenefield has served as president and CEO of Phelps Health for 5 years. He joined Phelps Health in 2016 as chief operating officer. During his tenure, he has led initiatives focused on clinical excellence, strategic growth and organizational culture. Under his leadership, Phelps Health launched a 24/7 STEMI program to treat the most severe type of heart attack. The program earned Primary Heart Attack Center certification from The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association. He also oversaw the opening of a comprehensive Weight Loss and Bariatric Center offering surgical and nonsurgical services. Shenefield has also led strategic initiatives to expand access, including Phelps Health's participation in an accountable care organization, the launch of a direct-to-employer health plan and Medicare Advantage plan, and efforts to secure state appropriations for emergency services. Shenefield has helped guide a cultural transformation at Phelps Health that includes an employee advisory council, wellness committee, annual innovation summit and CARES employee recognition platform, which has generated more than 37,000 employee nominations. Under his leadership, Phelps Health has experienced double-digit growth in key service areas, improved patient experience scores and stronger financial performance. The health system has also been named to Forbes' "America's Best Employers by State" list for 3 consecutive years, from 2023 through 2025. Before joining Phelps Health, Shenefield began his healthcare career as a Navy hospital corpsman, earning the Navy Achievement Medal for his work in a clinic serving nearly 100,000 patients annually. He later held leadership positions at healthcare organizations near Chicago and in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Shenefield serves on the American Hospital Association's regional policy board and the Missouri Hospital Association's board of trustees. July 10, 2026 ROLLA, Mo. - The Phelps Health Marketing and Public Relations Department was recently recognized for excellence in healthcare advertising and marketing. The Marketing Department earned seven Aster Awards in a national competition hosted by Creative Images, Inc. Now in their 25th year, the Aster Awards recognize outstanding creativity and professionalism in healthcare advertising, marketing and communications. Phelps Health has a history of winning awards from this organization. "I'm incredibly proud of our Marketing team for being recognized with five Gold Awards and two Silver Awards this year," said Carlos Martinez, associate vice president of experience strategy and engagement at Phelps Health. "Their work reflects strong creativity, strategy and a clear focus on helping patients better understand important health topics and services." The Aster Awards were presented for work completed in 2025. Entries were judged against submissions from similar-sized organizations across the United States. Why do staffing shortages happen? Why does the system feel so complicated? Phelps Health Director Honored With National Respiratory Care Award

Phelps Health director honored with national Respiratory Care award. * Phelps Health * 23 hrs ago Phelps Health is proud to announce that Cheryl Hoerr, director of Respiratory and Sleep Services, has received a Life Membership award from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). This national honor recognizes her many years of leadership, service and contributions to the field of respiratory care. Cheryl has been part of the Phelps Health team since 2009. She has spent more than 45 years advancing respiratory care through education, advocacy and mentoring others at both the state and national levels. "I'm here, on this stage, receiving this award, because I said 'yes,'" Cheryl said in her acceptance speech. "There are so many opportunities out there, and I encourage you to say 'yes.'" The AARC Life Membership award is given to people who show outstanding commitment to the profession and the association "Life Membership is not just about time in the profession; it's about leadership, service and making a real difference," said AARC President Dana Evans at the AARC International Congress held in December 2025. "Cheryl has held many leadership roles, including President of the Missouri Society for Respiratory Care and AARC Vice President of Internal Affairs. She has given more than 100 presentations across the U.S. and internationally, written multiple publications, and taken part in research. As a respiratory therapy manager and director, she has guided high-quality, patient-centered care and mentored future professionals. Cheryl's work is an inspiration to the field." Cheryl stays involved in both state and national organizations to keep up with changes in respiratory care and bring back knowledge and resources to support local respiratory therapists at Phelps Health. "Cheryl's Life Membership award from the AARC reflects her amazing commitment to respiratory care, education and leadership," said Shawn Hodges, executive director of ancillary services at Phelps Health. "Her work has influenced the profession far beyond our health system. She has guided practice standards, mentored countless professionals and served the field for decades.
