PPowerdot operates an extensive network of EV charging points across Europe. It provides fully funded, turnkey charging solutions to commercial real estate partners (such as supermarkets, malls, restaurants, and hotels), installing and operating the chargers at no cost to the property owners. Revenue comes from energy sales to EV drivers, with a revenue‑sharing arrangement with partners. The company’s chargers are deployed at high‑traffic, destination locations and powered by large-scale financing to accelerate growth, including support from Antin Infrastructure Partners and other investors. Unlike many operators that charge property owners or require upfront capital, Powerdot absorbs the installation and operating costs and monetizes through driver energy usage. The goal is to become a leading provider of destination charging in Europe by expanding its network to tens of thousands more chargers and integrating charging into drivers’ daily routines at convenient locations.

Powerdot and Hubject expand Plug&Charge EV charging across Europe. Published by Emma Grayson 7th October 2026 Business BERLIN, GERMANY, 7 October 2026 - More than 7,000 Powerdot charging points across four European markets can now automatically recognise compatible electric vehicles, simplifying the public charging experience. The deployment covers Powerdot charging infrastructure in France, Spain, Belgium and Poland, giving drivers of compatible electric vehicles a simpler way to begin a charging session. Instead of opening an app, presenting an RFID charging card or completing a separate authentication process at the charger, eligible vehicles can identify themselves automatically when connected. The technology is designed to make charging feel more like a normal part of driving an electric vehicle rather than a separate digital transaction. Taking friction out of public EV charging. Public charging networks have expanded rapidly across Europe, but drivers can still encounter different apps, accounts, cards and payment processes when moving between charging operators. Plug&Charge is intended to reduce that complexity. Based on the ISO 15118 standard, the technology enables compatible electric vehicles and charging stations to exchange the information required to authenticate a charging session securely. Hubject provides the interoperability infrastructure connecting charge point operators, vehicle manufacturers and e-mobility service providers. For Powerdot customers with compatible vehicles and services, the result is straightforward: connect the vehicle and charging can begin without the driver having to manually authenticate at the charging point. Christian Hahn, CEO of Hubject, said: "Charging should become one of the simplest parts of owning an electric vehicle. By extending Plug&Charge across thousands of Powerdot charging points, we are removing another layer of complexity for drivers and helping create a European charging ecosystem that works more seamlessly across vehicles, operators and mobility services." Plug&Charge reaches more than half of Powerdot's network. The 7,000-plus enabled charging points represent more than half of Powerdot's European network. Powerdot currently operates more than 13,000 charge points at over 2,400 locations across Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Poland. The company has developed its network around the concept of destination charging, installing EV infrastructure in places motorists already visit as part of their normal routines. These include supermarkets, shopping centres, restaurants and other high-traffic commercial locations. Adding Plug&Charge supports that strategy by simplifying what happens when drivers reach those destinations. Rather than spending time navigating a charging app or locating an RFID card, compatible drivers can connect their vehicle and move on with what they came to do. Luís Santiago Pinto, CEO of Powerdot, said: "Our aim is to make charging fit naturally into people's everyday lives. Drivers should not have to think about networks, authentication methods or which app to open before they can charge. Plug&Charge moves us closer to an experience where the technology handles those processes in the background and the customer simply plugs in." Supporting an open European charging ecosystem. Powerdot's integration with Hubject reflects a wider industry push towards interoperability. Instead of building the customer experience around a proprietary Powerdot application, the charge point operator works with mobility platforms, e-mobility service providers and vehicle manufacturers. Plug&Charge extends that approach directly to the vehicle. When a compatible EV connects to a supported charger, digital certificates can be exchanged between the vehicle, charging infrastructure and associated mobility service. Hubject's Public Key Infrastructure provides the security framework used to authenticate those certificates. Powerdot has joined Hubject's Plug&Charge ecosystem as a Charge Point Operator, enabling its infrastructure to participate in that automated authentication process. Charging infrastructure becomes part of the vehicle experience. As electric vehicle adoption grows, attention is increasingly moving from the number of available chargers to the overall quality and simplicity of using them. Removing authentication steps can be particularly important for public charging, where customers may encounter multiple charging operators during longer journeys or while travelling between European countries. Plug&Charge shifts more of that process into the vehicle itself. Christian Hahn added: "The next phase of e-mobility is not simply about installing more charge points. It is about making those charge points easier to use. Interoperability allows the industry to hide technical complexity from the driver, and that is essential if electric mobility is to deliver the convenient experience consumers expect." The announcement follows Powerdot's participation in icnc26, Hubject's intercharge Network Conference in Berlin in September 2026, where industry participants discussed interoperability and the future of simplified EV charging. The Powerdot and Hubject integration represents another step towards making automatic vehicle authentication a more familiar feature of Europe's public charging infrastructure. About Powerdot. This guide has tips for avoiding queues at charging stations on electric car trips. Link to Leaders August 9, 2026 The initiative aims to help electric vehicle drivers avoid the most congested charging stations, better plan stops and find quick alternatives along the route. Summer travel brings with it a significant increase in traffic on Portuguese roads and, for those driving an electric car, also greater demand for charging stations. It was with this scenario in mind that miio and Powerdot launched a joint guide that aims to facilitate travel planning, helping users find alternatives to the busiest service areas. Until early September, the miio app will highlight more than 280 Powerdot network locations situated less than 15 minutes from the country's main roads. Of these, 185 are less than five minutes from a motorway exit or another major road, allowing drivers to choose fast and ultra-fast charging points outside the places traditionally most congested during the summer. The initiative comes at a time when charging habits change significantly. According to miio data, during the holiday period, charging sessions carried out more than 100 kilometers from users' usual region are about 1.5 times higher than those recorded during the rest of the year. The trend is also reflected in energy consumption. Between 2023 and 2025, miio network users charged between 18% and 23% more kilowatt-hours in August than in July. In the Algarve, one of the country's main tourist destinations, the share of charging sessions carried out during August almost doubled compared to the rest of the year. Powerdot's network currently has more locations near motorways than the total number of service areas on Portuguese motorways. The chargers are installed in supermarkets, shopping centers, retail parks, restaurants, fuel stations and other commercial spaces, allowing charging to be integrated into stops already planned for meals, shopping or breaks during the trip. Between Porto and Lisbon, the app identifies charging locations in areas such as Mealhada, Condeixa-a-Nova, Santarém and Aveiras de Cima. On the connection to the Algarve, alternatives appear in Palmela, Pegões and Sines, while in the Algarve region there are points in municipalities such as Albufeira, Portimão, Loulé, Alcantarilha and São Brás de Alportel. "As electric mobility grows in Portugal, information becomes an increasingly important element of the charging experience. Our goal is to help drivers discover more options along the way, allowing them to better plan their stops and travel with greater confidence," says Daniela Simões, co-founder and CEO of miio, quoted in a statement. Laura Gonçalves, regional general manager of Powerdot for the Iberian Peninsula, also stresses that the existing infrastructure already allows greater flexibility for users. "Portugal already has a sufficiently broad charging network for drivers to have several options during summer trips. The adoption of electric mobility opens possibilities that a combustion car simply does not offer, allowing us to choose where and how to make the most of charging time. With this initiative, we want to make these alternatives more visible and help users better plan their routes," she says. In addition to the informational component, the campaign also includes an advantage for miio app users. Until early September, those who charge on the Powerdot network can benefit from up to 20% cashback: 10% on all charges and an additional 10% for those who activate the Autocharge feature. The selection of charging stations can be consulted through a landing page created specifically to support summer travel planning.
