France: "Dragon Ball" theme park plan with Saudi funding Mainichi Shimbun 2026/8/10 08:07 (last updated 8/10 08:16) 503 characters Plans are emerging to build a theme park for the globally popular Japanese anime "Dragon Ball" on the outskirts of Paris, France. The French government has reportedly been holding talks over the past few months with officials from Saudi Arabia's state-owned company "Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC)". The European edition of the U.S. news website "Politico" reported this based on six diplomatic and corporate sources. According to the report, the theme park is planned to be built about 30 kilometers northwest of Paris. The site has been left as is since France's largest theme park was closed in 1991 due to financial difficulties, and the French government wants to redevelop it with Saudi funding. The total investment is expected to exceed 1 billion euros (about 182 billion yen). QIC reportedly recently opened an office in Paris. In Saudi Arabia, QIC is already leading a plan to build the world's first giant Dragon Ball theme park on the outskirts of the capital Riyadh. Japanese anime is popular in Europe, and especially pervasive in France. French President Macron is known to be a fan of Dragon Ball. Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed, is also said to be a fan of the popular Japanese anime "One Piece". [Brussels: Issei Suzuki]
