Integrated photonics sits at the center of Quantinuum's next-generation trapped-ion machines. Miniaturized, chip-scale photonics guide, modulate, and deliver laser light for qubit state manipulation, addressing, and optical entanglement across multi-zone trapped-ion QPUs. A dedicated facility in New Mexico puts the work near Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the University of New Mexico. New Mexico has directed more than $450 million toward quantum research, startup infrastructure, and defense partnerships. The Albuquerque hub adds to Quantinuum's headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado and its centers in the US, UK, Germany, Japan, and Singapore. The State of New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque announced on Aug. 18 that they will support the expansion of Quantinuum, a quantum computing company, with $1.5 million in combined Local Economic Development Act funds for a new research and development hub in Albuquerque. Quantinuum develops quantum computers and software designed to enable advances across industries such as healthcare, finance, and artificial intelligence. The company first established its presence in Albuquerque last year with a 6,000-square-foot facility near Balloon Fiesta Park. The new investment is expected to create dozens of highly skilled jobs and generate economic impact over the next decade. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said, "New Mexico is proving that the future of quantum technology will be built right here in the Land of Enchantment. Quantinuum's expansion reflects the momentum we've created by investing in world-class research, growing our innovation economy, and creating high-paying careers that will keep New Mexico at the forefront of one of the world's most transformative industries."
