Quarterhill

Quarterhill

ITS tolling, safety, and enforcement provider

Overview

Quarterhill is a holding company focused on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for tolling, safety, and enforcement. It delivers integrated transportation technology by combining hardware, software, and services from its acquired brands (IRD, ETC, Sensor Line, Icoms Detections, VDS) to offer all-electronic tolling (AET), automated weigh-in-motion (WIM), traffic management, virtual weigh stations, and sensor-based vehicle detection. Unlike its earlier IP licensing, it now operates ITS solutions under a unified brand with long-term maintenance contracts and SaaS subscriptions. Its goal is to help toll authorities and other transportation entities increase revenue capture, improve traffic flow, protect infrastructure from overweight vehicles, and enhance road safety through data-driven ITS solutions.

Quarterhill brings multilane radar detection system to UK traffic signal market

Quarterhill has achieved TOPAS 2505B registration for its TMB-13X multilane intersection radar in the United Kingdom, enabling the company to sell the traffic detection technology to UK transport authorities. The Toronto-based intelligent transportation systems provider can now offer the product to traffic signal controller manufacturers, system integrators and transport authorities across Britain. The TMB-13X provides an above-ground alternative to traditional in-road sensors, monitoring vehicles and cyclists across multiple lanes with up to nine configurable virtual detection loops. The product aims to reduce roadwork, installation costs and traffic disruption associated with in-road sensors. The UK represents a significant market for traffic signal detection, with Transport for London alone operating approximately 6,400 traffic signal sites supported by more than 16,000 traffic detectors. The TOPAS-registered TMB-13X is now available for order.
