Raising Cane's grand opening: third-generation Tuscaloosa developer brings city's first freestanding location to McFarland Boulevard. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Aug. 24 ribbon cutting marks a new chapter for a McFarland Boulevard corner tied to the Buchalter family for several decades TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Raising Cane's is scheduled to open Tuscaloosa's first freestanding restaurant later this month at 1241 McFarland Blvd. E. The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama has scheduled a grand-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the event. The site's redevelopment was led by Capital Growth Buchalter ("CGB"), a Tuscaloosa-founded firm whose family connection to the corner spans more than 30 years. "As the third generation of our family in this business, I have learned that the best development decisions are measured over decades, not months," said Eric Buchalter, a managing principal at CGB. "This Raising Cane's opening reflects our family's long-term commitment to Tuscaloosa and to this corridor," added Robert Buchalter, chairman of CGB. "We're proud to see this next step for the property and the continued growth of this corridor." CGB coordinated with Raising Cane's and the City of Tuscaloosa throughout the planning, permitting and site-access review processes required to advance the redevelopment. CGB's general counsel and partner Chad Post was instrumental in coordinating those efforts with the city and Raising Cane's. The project continues CGB's redevelopment history along the corridor. Adjacent to this property, the company redeveloped the former 13.5-acre Wood Square Shopping Center after it was destroyed by the April 27, 2011, tornado. The 1,226-bed Lofts at City Center opened in 2013, and the site later welcomed Aldi, Texas Roadhouse and Whataburger. The Raising Cane's opening advances the corner's broader redevelopment. CGB is evaluating additional commercial uses for approximately 1.2 adjacent acres. Raising Cane's plans Paramus restaurant. Popular chicken finger chain Raising Cane's is heading to Bergen County. After securing approval from the Paramus Planning Board earlier this year, the fast-food brand plans to open a drive-thru restaurant at 55 Route 4 W. In Paramus, Raising Cane's is taking over a 1.72-acre plot formerly occupied by Stickley Furniture. The retailer relocated to a space on Route 17 North in fall 2024 and began a phased move-out of the old store earlier this year. Raising Cane's plans to tear down the existing 22,364-square-foot structure and replace it with a 3,390-square-foot restaurant that includes drive-thru lanes, outdoor dining, 44 parking spaces and landscaping improvements, according to planning board documents. The application was approved in a 6-0 vote by the board during its Jan. 29 meeting, the board secretary told NJBIZ. A spokesperson for Raising Cane's did not immediately respond to a request for details on the timeline for opening. Plan your trip. Jersey Digs reported that Stickley recently sold its two lots to Raising Cane's for $7.1 million and that ownership was transferred in April. The property sits just east of Route 17 and near the Garden State Parkway. It's also about a half mile from Bergen Town Center and about a mile from Westfield Garden State Plaza. Founded in 1996, Raising Cane's serves chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, Texas toast, coleslaw and signature "Cane's Sauce." With more than 900 locations nationwide, the Louisiana-based chain is considered one of the fastest-growing restaurant brands in the U.S. Since opening its first New Jersey site two years ago in Burlington, Raising Cane's has added outposts in Burlington, Cherry Hill, Deptford, Edison, Fairfield, Glassboro, Marlton and Turnersville. Raising Cane's next spot will open Aug. 17 at 801 W. Edgar Road in Linden. It is among the nearly half dozen restaurants the brand will launch this month as part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, USA Today reported. Other local outposts in the works include:
