ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 20, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- This week, the Royal Air Force (RAF) took a significant leap forward in redefining pilot training with the completion of successful demonstration flights of a revolutionary airborne augmented reality (AR) technology, ATARS (Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality System), on its Hawk advanced training jet. RAF test pilots were able to identify, engage, and defeat virtual adversaries and co-operate with synthetic wingmen while airborne in real time."We're thrilled to see the Royal Air Force embrace the transformative potential of ATARS (Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality System). This successful demonstration marks a massive milestone in, showcasing how Red 6's technology will revolutionize pilot training. By projecting synthetically generated entities through Red 6's patented augmented reality technology into the field of view of the pilots, ATARS negates the need to provide live aircraft and instructors for students to fly with, or against. This revolutionary technology promises to transform the capacity and quality of UK Military Flying Training by increasing the throughput of students at enormous cost savings to the MoD
Daniel Ramirez, former strategy and business development leader at CAE, was named chief revenue officer at Red 6, a technology firm developing augmented reality tech to support air combat training.
The collaboration will integrate Red 6's Airborne Tactical Augmented Reality System (ATARS) into AERALIS's training system, which will be facilitated by AERALIS's software, and is compatible with the UK Ministry of Defence's Pyramid team, the statement reads.
The move will combine BAE Systems' OdySSEy with Red 6's Advanced Tactical Augmented Reality Systems (ATARS) and PLEXSYS' Advanced Simulation Combat Operations Trainer.
A computer-generated image of a fighter jet shows up on augmented-reality glasses. (Boeing Photo)Boeing and an augmented-reality company called Red 6 have successfully flown and tested a virtual display system in a TA-4J Skyhawk tactical aircraft, in preparation for putting the system on a T-7 advanced training jet.The system lets pilots see and interact with virtual aircraft, targets and threats on the ground and in the air, while also experiencing the stresses that come with physically flying their airplane. The idea is to provide pilots with a realistic training environment while minimizing the risks of getting hurt. “Boeing is the first company to team with Red 6 on this type of advanced training technology,” Donn Yates, executive director of Boeing Air Force Fighters and Trainers Business Development, said today in a news release. “The successful series of ground tests and four flight sorties illustrate our collaborative ability to rapidly integrate, deliver and test new technology with the potential to change fighter pilot training for an entire generation.”.
