Ridgway Machines aims for HTS growth with new managing director. Ridgway Machines has appointed Mike Allen as its new managing director to lead a new phase of growth for the Tokamak Energy subsidiary. Founded in 1920, the Leicester, UK-based engineering company is a designer and manufacturer of automated production systems for next-generation energy and electrification technologies including fusion energy, superconducting power, grid and electrical infrastructure. Among its products are manufacturing platforms for superconducting cables, coils for magnets and cable production. Tokamak Energy, a leading fusion technology company located in the UK, acquired Ridgway in September 2025 to deliver high-quality high temperature superconductor (HTS) products at scale and provide end-to-end capability. It launched TE Magnetics the previous year to focus on the industrial deployment of HTS technology. The company reports it has made a strong start to 2026 as demand for high temperature superconducting cables and coils for magnet systems from power and fusion energy customers rises worldwide. Allen joins Ridgway from TT Electronics; previously, he held managing director level roles at Dynamic Aerospace Fabrications and Pattonair after a 31-year career at Rolls-Royce, where he held a number of positions, including operations director.
