Ridgway Machines

Ridgway Machines

Manufactures precision winding and taping machinery

Overview

Ridgway Machines designs and builds precision taping and winding machinery for electrical coils, cables, and pipe products (RTP/TCP). Its systems manage winding, insulation, and tape wrapping to manufacture components for energy, oil and gas, and scientific research, including subsea cables and pipeline parts. The company offers bespoke engineering from design to installation, training, and global technical support, exporting about 90% of its output. In 2025 it became a subsidiary of Tokamak Energy, using its winding and insulation expertise to scale HTS magnet and cable manufacturing for TE Magnetics while keeping the Ridgway brand and workforce.

  • Tokamak Energy appointed Mike Allen as Ridgway Managing Director in April 2026, signaling growth investment.
  • Furukawa Electric and Tokamak Energy announced UK HTS tape feasibility work on June 15, 2026.

What critics are saying

What makes Ridgway Machines unique

  • Ridgway Machines supplies bespoke HTS winding and cable-insulation equipment for Tokamak Energy.
  • Its Leicester facility, workforce, and brand stayed intact after Tokamak Energy's 2025 acquisition.
