Rocket Lab USA

Launch services and spacecraft components provider

Overview

Rocket Lab USA provides end-to-end space services including launch, spacecraft components, and mission support for government, defense, and commercial customers. Its Electron small-lift launcher delivers dedicated missions for small satellites, using carbon composite structures and 3D-printed Rutherford engines for high launch frequency. The Space Systems unit makes spacecraft components and the Photon satellite bus, and the company is developing Neutron for larger constellations and interplanetary missions, as well as HASTE for hypersonic tech tests. By combining in-house launch and hardware with strategic acquisitions, Rocket Lab offers integrated mission solutions to reduce risk and complexity, aiming to make space missions faster, more reliable, and more accessible.

Bank of America reiterates Buy rating on Rocket Lab with $115 target after Q2 earnings

Bank of America reiterated its Buy rating on Rocket Lab with a $115 price target, representing roughly 44% upside, following the space company's second-quarter earnings. The bank views potential weakness from a revenue miss as "a particularly attractive entry point." Rocket Lab reported second-quarter revenue of $234.1 million, up 62% year-over-year, slightly below the $237 million Bloomberg consensus. The shortfall stemmed from Launch Services revenue falling 4% to $44.6 million, whilst Space Systems revenue climbed to $189.5 million from $97.9 million. Bank of America highlighted positive indicators including a record $2.36 billion total backlog, up 137% year-over-year, and more than $437 million in new launch contracts secured. The company's GAAP net loss narrowed to $49.3 million from $66.4 million in the prior year period.

AST SpaceMobile and Rocket Lab chase SpaceX model, but analyst warns of 'very inflated valuations

AST SpaceMobile and Rocket Lab are following SpaceX's vertically integrated strategy, but analyst Tim Farrar warns of inflated valuations and execution challenges. Both companies are expanding beyond their core businesses, with Rocket Lab acquiring satellite services through its proposed Iridium deal and AST exploring investments to reduce reliance on third-party launch providers. Farrar highlighted significant delays in Rocket Lab's Neutron rocket programme, initially scheduled for 2025 but now expected in 2026 or possibly 2027. AST faces launch constraints despite securing 10 launches for its 45 BlueBird satellite constellation, targeted for early 2027. Rocket Lab's Iridium acquisition would add a 66-satellite network with over 2.5 million subscribers and more than $870 million in annual revenue. AST raised $1.15 billion in July, ending June with over $3.7 billion in pro forma cash.

Rocket Lab shares fall 8% as earnings miss and 29-31% margin outlook disappoints despite $264M revenue

Rocket Lab shares fell roughly 8% in pre-market trading after the company missed earnings expectations and issued weaker-than-expected margin guidance. The space technology firm reported a loss of $0.08 per share versus the anticipated $0.06 per share loss. The company forecast GAAP gross margins of 29% to 31%, well below the 37.6% analysts expected. The lower outlook reflects increased contributions from lower-margin satellite sales and integration costs from recent acquisitions of Mynaric and Motiv. Revenue reached €234.06 million, up 62% and beating forecasts. Backlog surged 137% to €2.36 billion, driven largely by the Space Systems division. Adjusted EBITDA loss of €8.8 million came in better than the expected €20 million to €26 million loss. Rocket Lab projects third-quarter revenue of $250 million to $265 million, above the $237 million consensus estimate.

Rocket Lab establishes German subsidiary to deliver sovereign space capabilities to Europe

Rocket Lab has established Rocket Lab Germany GmbH to expand its manufacturing capabilities and deliver sovereign space solutions to Europe. The company plans to scale satellite and component production in Germany, building on its acquisition of Munich-based Mynaric AG, which produces laser optical communications terminals. Rocket Lab Germany will pursue opportunities to establish satellite, payload, and components manufacturing, creating a regional hub for constellation-class production. The expansion addresses Europe's growing demand for strategic autonomy in space, with thousands of satellites expected to be deployed for commercial, defence, and national security purposes over the next decade. The company will also provide launch services through its Electron and Neutron vehicles, ensuring European programmes have reliable access to space. Founder and CEO Sir Peter Beck said Europe faces significant gaps in both launch and spacecraft manufacturing capabilities.
