Ruggable's stylish new play mats are designed to grow with your child.

Ruggable's stylish new play mats are designed to grow with your child. ByMargaret Badore, Kids & Baby Gear Editor. I'm a mom with 15+ years of experience covering health and science. Jul 30, 2026, 10:39am EDT Ruggable is expanding its kid-friendly offerings with its first line of play mats. The collection is available starting today, July 30, and is made up of more than a dozen playful yet sophisticated designs. Ruggable's VP of global design, Maria O'Brien, says the patterns and colorways draw inspiration from classic circus and fun fair motifs, as well as heritage fabric patterns like checkerboards and retro argyles. Ruggable is best known for its washable rugs, and while the new play mats aren't machine-washable, they're designed to be similarly easy to maintain. Their nontoxic surface can be wiped clean after spills, crumbs and other everyday messes. "It doesn't matter if they're learning to eat and the food is all over the rug because you can wash it - it's the same way with the play mat," says O'Brien. Happy harlequin pearl pink play mat. Want to read this story later? Get a link sent straight to your inbox. This style of mat is ideal for tummy time with newborns, but I've also found it useful for adding a softer surface to hard floors when little kids are prone to roughhousing. Ruggable's mats work well for both stages, with a reversible construction that features a different pattern on each side. "There's the flexibility of having two different patterns," O'Brien says. "What we tried to do is some very soft pinks and blues and more nursery colors, and then a few more neutral colors for when they become a toddler and it might need to move into a playroom or a kitchen or somewhere else." Storytime plaid denim blue play mat. Most of the designs feature playful, abstract prints, including pastel plaids and confetti-inspired polka dots. One exception is a charming pattern that features woodland creatures wearing party hats among flowers and balloons, available in either soft pink or blue. The collection also reflects a broader trend in kids' gear toward products that blend more seamlessly with grown-up décor, like play pens with neutral colors and high chairs with elevated, wood-forward aesthetics. "It needs to function in a lot of different spaces depending on where you happen to be with your baby," says O'Brien. Mini me check multicolor play mat. "Ardmore represents an important step in our expanding retail footprint," said Jennifer Parker, Ernesta chief sales officer. "The new showroom allows us to bring our tailored approach to the Greater Philadelphia Area - offering a more personal, hands-on experience where clients and designers alike can create something truly tailored to their space with the support and expertise our team is known for." The Ardmore showroom marks the brand's eighth location. It opened a store on Long Island last month. ************* The Vista collection, a mid-century modern-inspired range of nine rug designs by Creative Matters in collaboration with Reddie Furniture, launched this week. Reddie Furniture has showrooms in both London and Sydney, Australia. Woven by hand by artisans in Afghanistan, this collection facilitates work and social interactions for Afghan women either in small community weaving centers or in the weavers' own homes and provides these women with the opportunity to make a living. Many of them are the sole breadwinners in their families. Using local Ghazni wool from mountainous sheep, in 45x45 Persian knots, these rugs (size options: 8' x 10', 9' x 12', 10' x 14', and 12' x 15' or custom-sized) provide a juxtaposition between the modern, cityscape-inspired designs and the more rustic texture that the wool and ancient knot technique provide. Available exclusively through new design destination showroom Reddie Furniture, each of the nine designs (Promenade, Plaza, Skyline, Horizon, Boulevard, Acreage, Summit, Avenue and High Street) can be customized to suit specific colors and sizes. Each of the designs expertly layers geometric blocks of color, clean borders and subtle patterns rendered in a charmingly textured wool and immaculately hand-knotted by experienced artisans. Founded in 1988 in Toronto, Creative Matters has been designing hand-knotted rug collections and bespoke, fair-trade floor coverings for clients in more than 40 countries. ************* Rugs.com has donated 550 rugs to classrooms across 20 Los Angeles Unified School District schools. The gift is part of Rugs.com's signature "Paying It Floorward" program. Three of the rugs donated to Los Angeles Schools by Rugs.com The rug company teamed up with Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, a non-profit organization that manages a network of 20 high-need public schools across Boyle Heights, Watts and South Los Angeles, and IMC Logistics, the leading marine drayage operator in North America, which donated delivery to every school. Created in 2023, the "Paying it Floorward" initiative transforms classrooms across America into more comfortable, inviting and vibrant learning environments. A classroom rug is often where stories are read, group discussions begin, friendships form and confidence takes root. Rugs.com created the program to give teachers a foundational resource for the spaces where so much learning and community-building happen. "Teachers are the backbone of our communities, and we wanted to do something tangible to show our gratitude," said Andrew Haltom of Rugs.com. "By teaming up with Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, we were able to reach 20 schools that serve incredible students and faculty. Delivering these 550 rugs during Teacher Appreciation Week was our way of saying 'thank you' for the tireless work educators do every day and encouraging others to give back to their community." The rug deliveries took place throughout the first full week of May. To submit your teacher or classroom for a free rug through the Rugs.com "Paying it Floorward" program, visit: https://rugs.com/p/Teacher-Appreciation.

Houzz's shopping site winds down, Cohen defaults on D&D Building mortgage, and more

Ruggable tapped Marimekko to create a capsule collection of washable rugs Houzz's shopping site winds down, Cohen defaults on D&D Building mortgage, and more. This week in design, the secret to a successful 40-year marriage might just lie in repeated gut renovations (eight in total for the couple in question). Stay in the know with our weekly roundup of headlines, launches, recommended reading and more. Business News Cohen Brothers Realty has defaulted on the mortgage backing New York's Decoration & Design Building, Bisnow reports. The $150 million loan went into special servicing earlier this month before maturing on May 6, though the company's general counsel told Bisnow that Charles Cohen is "actively working with the lender" and in the process of refinancing his debt. According to Morningstar Credit, the building's occupancy has been on the decline in recent years, reaching a low of 63 percent at the end of last year, down from 83 percent in 2020. Meanwhile, Charles Cohen's ongoing legal battle with Fortress Investment Group continues. After a New York State Supreme Court judge gave the real estate mogul 45 days to settle his nearly $190 million debt with the lender, he managed to get the deadline pushed back 30 days to May 20. Just this week, both Cohen and Fortress filed to request yet another extension - this time until June 19 - in light of the progress the landlord has made toward gathering the necessary funds to satisfy his debt. Online home furnishings marketplace Shop Houzz - an e-commerce offshoot of the Houzz home renovation, design inspiration and software platform - is winding down operations ahead of a permanent closure later this month, Home Accents Today reports. In a notice Houzz sent to vendors dated May 7, it announced that Shop Houzz would stop accepting orders the same day, and would be closing effective May 22. According to the article, the online marketplace appears to have been separated from the Houzz platform in 2025, operating independently under the ownership of Cart.com Holdings 2 LLC. Houzz's main site and technology offerings for design professionals will remain unaffected. The feature that would eventually be renamed Shop Houzz was controversial when it debuted in 2018, generating concern among design professionals after their project photos were being tagged by the platform with links to buy merchandise. Inter Ikea, parent company of the Swedish home retailer, has announced that it is cutting 850 jobs in an effort to reduce costs, Reuters reports. According to chief financial officer Henrik Elm, the decision was fueled by a need to increase efficiency and lower prices in the face of falling consumer demand - an issue that has been exacerbated by the war in Iran. The recent staff reductions represent roughly 3 percent of Inter Ikea's total workforce, including 300 employees in Sweden, where the brand was founded. The news comes two months after Ikea franchisee Ingka Group, which operates the vast majority of Ikea retail stores worldwide, announced plans to lay off 800 workers from its offices. Meanwhile, Bed Bath & Beyond has announced its own round of layoffs as it shutters a Tennessee office for its recently acquired The Brand House Collective (formerly known as Kirkland's) division, Retail Dive reports. According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the state on May 1, the closure will lead to job cuts for 88 workers at the corporate office; at press time, neither brand had responded to the publication's request for comment. Though the company has not stated a reason for the closure, Bed Bath & Beyond CEO Marcus Lemonis said on an earnings call last month that the company's AI adoption plan would cause a "significant reduction in headcount." On May 20, Jessica Nelson, co-founder of AI for Interiors and principal of Etch Design Group, breaks down how to use AI to get your design firm found, recommended and hired. Click h ere to learn more and remember, workshops are free for BOH Insiders. Etsy is beta-testing a conversational AI app within ChatGPT, Retail Dive reports. The new feature will allow ChatGPT users to tag Etsy in their conversations, directing the AI agent to surface relevant search results from the platform and compare product recommendations, all of which link back to the marketplace's main site. The e-commerce platform is also testing a conversational AI search program on its own site. According to Etsy's chief product and technology officer, Rafe Colburn, the idea came after the brand found success in partnering with OpenAI for its Instant Checkout feature, which lets users purchase items directly from ChatGPT. The feature has been scaled back in recent months, as OpenAI shifts focus to redirecting ChatGPT users to purchase items through retailers' sites. Jenni Kayne teamed up with Business & Pleasure Co. to introduce a collection of outdoor furniture and accessories Launches and Collaborations Havenly Brands has announced the debut of a new performance rug brand called Weft. The concept launched with an array of designs that are made to withstand high-traffic spaces (many pieces in the debut collection are machine washable) while offering comfortable textures and elevated, versatile patterns and colorways. New York-based design studio In Common With has debuted a Murano glass lighting collection in partnership with Venetian glass atelier Laguna B. The Lido series includes four designs centered on two key Murano techniques, the goti de fornasa and murrine, which fuse handblown glass with delicately crafted metal components. The Homo Faber Guide, a digital platform highlighting global craftsmanship, officially launched in the U.S. this month. The announcement coincides with the organization adding more than 200 master artisans from across the country to its platform, ranging from New York-based ceramicist Jane Yang-D'Haene to Oregonian woodcarver and sculptor Julian Watts, and representing more than 50 different crafts. Additionally, 60 of those makers will present at the Homo Faber Biennial this summer in Venice, Italy. Jenni Kayne teamed up with Business & Pleasure Co. to introduce a collection of outdoor furniture and accessories. United by a shared approach to California living, the assortment of umbrellas, seating and home decor calls to mind Kayne's signature interiors style, defined by a neutral palette and an emphasis on materiality. Ruggable tapped Marimekko to create a capsule collection of washable rugs that highlight the Finnish design house's playful patterns. Spanning nine designs - including favorites like Ensikukat by Erja Hirvi, Tuulahdus by Lotta Maija, and Unikko by Maija Isola - the array deals in striking prints, primary colors and oversize graphics, creating a bold floor-level focal point. Recommended Reading In an era when twentysomethings hunt for cheap antiques online and septuagenarians collect contemporary art, a person's home is no longer a clear reflection of their current stage of life. For Elle Decor, Rory Satran argues that when it comes to design decisions, age is just a number - and that the old rules around how a home's style must mature alongside its owners can be thrown out the window. Design history seems to be repeating itself. In the 1970s, the punchy and playful postmodern era followed the warmth and minimalism of midcentury modern, and now the revivals of those movements are enjoying a similar life cycle. For House Beautiful, Meghan Shouse explores how a resurgence of mid-20th-century styles is giving way to a renewed interest in the flashy, maximalist aesthetic of the '70s and '80s - though this time around, the animal motifs and vibrant hues are being updated with a slightly more subdued touch. Ruggable, Anthropologie team up on rug collection

Ruggable, Anthropologie team up on rug collection. The partnership includes seven tufted rugs and three doormats in varying sizes and is part of a broader distribution effort by the DTC brand. Dive brief: * DTC rug brand Ruggable has collaborated with Anthropologie on a collection of rugs and doormats that went live Wednesday, according to details emailed to Retail Dive. * Available on both the Ruggable and Anthropologie websites, as well as in Anthropologie Home Design Centers, the collection includes seven tufted rugs and three doormats. The rugs come in varying sizes and are priced between $139 and $1,449. The doormats are priced from $159 to $259. * The launch is indicative of Ruggable's broader expansion efforts, a priority of CEO Nicole Otto, who joined the brand in January after a 16-year career at Nike and two years as global brand president of The North Face. Dive insight: Ruggable's collection with Anthropologie is part of a larger strategy to broaden awareness and distribution. "Ruggable's expansion with Anthropologie represents a strategic step in meeting consumers where they naturally seek inspiration, both today and as we look ahead," Otto said in an email. "Being present in one of the most respected retail destinations in the home space allows us to introduce our washability and elevated design to consumers in a setting where they can experience the craftsmanship, texture, and quality of our rugs firsthand." Ruggable also recently collaborated with Architectural Digest on a collection curated by its global interiors and garden director, Alison Levasseur. Such collections have potential benefits for brand awareness, according to GlobalData Managing Director Neil Saunders. "The market for DTC firms remains tough although, in homewares, there has been some growth this year, which is helpful," Saunders said in an email. "The key for a firm like Ruggable is to find ways to create visibility around the brand - which a collection with Anthropologie will do. This is about standing out and creating points of interest." Founded in 2017 by Jeneva Bell, the privately held Ruggable went through a restructuring in 2023 that included the departure of 100 corporate employees. Former CEO Nathan Baldwin also left in 2023 and Ruggable did not fill the CEO role until Otto joined almost a year ago. In the past two years, Ruggable has taken steps to expand its international presence and leadership team. The company opened an international plant in Poland earlier this year to serve customers in Western Europe. Otto has also brought on new members of the executive team, including Restoration Hardware veteran Maria O'Brien as head of design, Nike alum Lauren Sherman as chief marketing officer and VF Corp. veteran Sarah Kleinmann as vice president and general manager of the Americas.
