No more free PokeCoins from Gyms in Pokemon GO?

No more free PokeCoins from Gyms in Pokemon GO? The Pokemon GO community is left wondering whether Scopely is planning to discontinue free PokeCoins from Gyms after a screenshot went viral on Twitter (now known as X). Following the game's initial launch, where it introduced earning coins from gyms, Pokemon GO brought in the time-based defender bonus on 19th June 2017. The update allowed trainers to earn 1 PokeCoin for every 10 minutes their Pokemon defended a gym. The daily cap was set to 50 PokeCoins. Since then, the game hasn't introduced any changes to the coin-earning system or the daily cap. A recent survey was released by the game, which had a variety of questions regarding how players engage with the in-game gyms. Among the set of questions, 'If you no longer can earn PokeCoins from gyms, how would that affect your gym interactions?' particularly stood out. This has been quite the hot topic among trainers and notable creators of the game. Other than raids, one of the biggest reasons players interact with gyms is to earn PokeCoins, which they use to purchase premium resources, including raid passes. Naturally, disbanding the PokeCoin-earning system from gyms will have a negative impact on gym interactions. Will Last Word On Gaming no longer get free pokecoins from Gyms? While this news has the Pokemon GO community anxious, nothing is certain. Scopely hasn't mentioned anything about eliminating the PokeCoin-earning system from the game. In recent times, Last Word On Gaming has seen Scopely introducing PokeCoins in the passes in the game, both in free and deluxe tiers. Moreover, during the one-day special, Professor Willow's birthday event, Last Word On Gaming saw field research tasks awarding trainers free PokeCoins. While the game has hinted at other ways to earn free PokeCoins, it never hinted at the removal of the PokeCoin-earning system from gyms. The recent Pokemon GO survey could simply be used towards an overall gym rework, as it has been a while since Last Word On Gaming had any changes to the gym system in the game. As the screenshots of the Pokemon GO survey went viral on social media, many trainers took to the comment section on these posts to voice their opinion. Trainers have stated that they have no reason to interact with the gyms at all if the free PokeCoin-earning system is removed. Featured Image Credit Image via Pokemon Press

Lil Snack appoints former Supercell executive Bill Kang as COO.

Lil Snack appoints former Supercell executive Bill Kang as COO. Kang spent 12 years at Supercell before joining the company July 23, 2026 * Lil Snack says engagement has grown 500% year over year. * The company operates more than 20 daily games across platforms including Netflix, Peacock and Reddit. * Hasbro is a partner and minority investor in the company. Gaming company Lil Snack has appointed former Supercell and Scopely executive Bill Kang as its new chief operating officer as the company looks to accelerate the growth of its daily games business. As reported by Variety, Kang joins the company after 12 years at Finnish mobile developer Supercell. Before that, he worked at Scopely alongside members of Lil Snack's founding team. Founded three years ago, Lil Snack now operates more than 20 daily games across platforms including Netflix, Peacock and Reddit. The company claims engagement has grown 500% year over year, with its games surpassing hundreds of millions of plays. The appointment follows more than $8m in funding last year from investors including a16z, Lerer Hippeau and Waverley Capital, while Hasbro is also a partner and minority investor. Growth plans Lil Snack co-founder and CEO Eric Berman described Kang as "one of the most respected operators in mobile gaming," adding that his experience scaling global game companies would help the studio capture its next phase of growth. "After resigning from Supercell, I spent a few months really chewing on what I wanted to do next," said Kang in a post. "I knew I wanted a small, killer team with a strong culture at an early stage, something to actually build alongside founders I trust, not simply inherit. "So when I grabbed coffee with my old compadre Travis Chen, and then reconnected with a leader I've long admired in Eric Berman, and realised they were quietly building exactly that - seed-stage, profitable, and going after an audacious vision - it was a pretty short conversation." Kang added that Lil Snack's approach of bringing games directly to platforms people already use, instead of asking players to discover them, was the kind of challenge he wanted to help scale.
