The company will build its first Indiana retail location at 1505 E. 86th St. in the Nora neighborhood on the north side of Indianapolis. Groundbreaking is slated for spring with an opening date expected in late summer 2027. The store will employ about 30 people, with most of the positions being full-time. Founded in 1952 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, the chain has more than 850 locations in seven states: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina. Sheetz opened its first Ohio store nearly 30 years ago, kicking off a steady expansion in the Midwest that now includes the Indiana market. In April, Sheetz announced plans to build 100 locations across Indiana over the next decade. The company said the $1 billion expansion would bring thousands of jobs to Indiana. Sheetz is known for made-to-order food. It aims to deliver a "flavor-packed, restaurant-quality dining experience" with modern conveniences like mobile pickup lanes. Other features include indoor and outdoor seating, groceries, "spotless touch-free restrooms" and free Wi-Fi. The menu includes specialty food and drink items like subs, sandwiches, pizza, chicken, salads, cold brew, milkshakes, smoothies and more - all served around the clock. Stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and are usually paired with gas stations. The company will announce additional locations and opening dates for Indiana stores as development continues.

Sheetz now open on site of razed Walgreens in Short Pump. Convenience store and gas station chain Sheetz has opened a new location in Short Pump, further growing its local presence. (Courtesy Sheetz) Sheetz has added a new outpost in Short Pump to its growing local footprint. The Pennsylvania-based convenience store and gas station chain opened this week at 11500 W. Broad St. in western Henrico. The new 5,000-square-foot store has 12 pumps and was built according to the company's latest design that's intended to emphasize a "restaurant-style experience," according to a Sheetz spokeswoman. It features indoor and outdoor seating, mobile pick-up lanes and groceries in addition to its menu of pizza, salads, milkshakes and sandwiches. The store was built on the site formerly home to a Walgreens, which closed in early 2025 after more than a decade of operation at the corner of West Broad and Pouncey Tract. Prior to the Walgreens, there was a gas station and bank on the site, which were torn down ahead of the pharmacy's construction in the early 2010s. Walgreens sold the property in a $3.8 million deal that closed in June of last year to real estate firm Morgan Co., which developed the Sheetz and continues to own the site. Sheetz held a grand-opening event the new location on Thursday. The Short Pump Sheetz is the latest to open amid the company's recent drive to expand its local presence. Sheetz opened a store at 7520 Staples Mill Road in Henrico in April, which was followed by the June opening of a location at 6200 Iron Bridge Road in Chesterfield. The Sheetz spokeswoman declined to comment on the company's plans for future stores in the Richmond and Petersburg areas, where the company operates more than 20 locations, though there are at least two more in the works locally. A Sheetz is anticipated to be part of a mixed-use project pending zoning approval in Hanover, and the company has also indicated interest in a location in the Chester area. Sheetz says it has more than 850 stores in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan.
