When will Chick-fil-A, Panda Express and Sheetz open in Stow?

When will Chick-fil-A, Panda Express and Sheetz open in Stow? Akron Beacon Journal July 18, 2026, 6:01 a.m. ET Two chain restaurants and a Sheetz gas station are still on target to open before the end of the year on the former Stow-Glen property on Kent Road. Stow-Glen Retirement Village closed in October 2021 after 37 years because of financial difficulties. The new Sheetz gas station and Chick-fil-A restaurants will have 2026 openings, said Lance F. Osborne of Osborne Capital Group in Mentor. "They'll both be open this year," Osborne said. "We don't have exact opening dates yet." An architect confirmed that American Chinese restaurant Panda Express also will open this year. The new Sheetz, which can be seen taking shape near the Meijer gas station, will include a 6,200-square-foot building and six pumps near Kent Road, on the front western part of the former Stow-Glen property. Sheetz is headquartered in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and has around 700 facilities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina. Chick-fil-A is the third-largest quick-service restaurant company in the United States, according to the company. More than 200,000 people are employed by independent owner-operators in more than 3,000 restaurants across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Phillip Meador, project architect at Heights Venture Architects in Houston, said the planned Panda Express, which will be on the abutting property west of the Meijer gas station, is expected to open before the end of the year. Panda Express will have a 2,741-square-foot restaurant, according to plans filed with the city. In addition, two retail buildings are planned for the back of the former Stow-Glen property, one 13,100 square feet and the other 15,000 square feet. Osborne said there were no updates on what businesses may move into those planned spaces. When will the new nursing home open at the former Stow-Glen? No one was available for comment regarding The Avenue at Stow Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, which was expected to open this summer. A job description on ZipRecruiter describes The Avenue as "a stunning, hotel-like skilled nursing facility." Evergreen Park of Stow, an apartment complex at 4287 Kent Road, opened in the spring. The apartments are in two remodeled buildings that formerly had assisted-living units. Reporter April Helms can be reached at [email protected]

Sheetz selects StorMagic SvHCI to replace VMware across more than 830 stores.

Sheetz selects StorMagic SvHCI to replace VMware across more than 830 stores. Sheetz has selected StorMagic SvHCI to replace VMware across more than 830 retail locations. The retailer has completed migrations at more than 600 stores so far and is averaging 200 stores per month, with the full rollout expected to take four months. The migration is being handled remotely across Sheetz's distributed retail environment. Each location previously ran VMware virtualization on a pair of Dell R440 or R450 series servers. By continuing to use that existing hardware, Sheetz is reducing costs and limiting disruption during the rollout. Sheetz had already deployed StorMagic SvSAN as the hyperconverged storage layer with VMware across hundreds of stores. The technology supported critical in-store applications while improving resiliency and simplifying infrastructure management. The company also replaced multiple single-purpose systems with a highly available two-node HCI architecture. This helped reduce hardware requirements and support services such as payment processing, loyalty programs and store operations. "Our initial rollout proved StorMagic could deliver the resilience and centralized management needed across a large distributed retail environment," said Gary Sliver, director of platform engineering at Sheetz. "StorMagic worked to understand our needs and requirements, to include a 24/7/365 operating environment, and ultimately delivered a product and plan that is allowing us to migrate hundreds of locations from VMware quickly and with minimal downtime, without requiring hardware replacements or having to send technicians to every site. This project is proof that large-scale edge migrations don't have to be disruptive, drawn-out or scary affairs." StorMagic said the project provides an example of how organizations can move away from VMware while retaining existing infrastructure and maintaining business continuity amid rising hardware prices and shipment delays. "Sheetz is demonstrating that enterprise-scale VMware migrations can be completed rapidly, remotely and without costly hardware refreshes," said Scott Mann, SVP global sales, StorMagic. "Organizations with hundreds or thousands of distributed sites need alternatives that reduce risk and operational complexity, and this deployment shows what's possible when customers can leverage their existing infrastructure." David Marshall has been involved in the technology industry for over 30 years, and he's been working with virtualization software since 1999. He became a pioneer in the virtualization and cloud computing field - one of the few people in the industry allowed to work with Alpha stage server virtualization software from industry leaders: VMware (ESX Server), Connectix and Microsoft (Virtual Server).Through the years, he has invented, marketed and helped launch a number of successful software companies and products.
