Older Americans Are Redefining Romance Online, New Data From Datemyage

69 per cent said as they age, mental connection becomes more important than being in the same cityNEW YORK, May 1, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of Older Americans Month, DateMyAge , an online communication platform for those over 45, conducted a new study on relationship trends among older singles. The survey reveals that the vast majority of older Americans are far more self-assured in what they want out of relationships and prioritize mental connection. As they tackle shrinking social circles and lack of options in their physical communities, many see online connection and virtual intimacy as the solution to loneliness.Singles are Older and WiserWhen respondents were asked about how their sentiments around relationships have changed as they age, 69 per cent of respondents said being in the same city is less important than mental connection. A further 91 per cent said mental connection is more important than physical connection – showing that as we age, the most important building block of relationships is an emotional and intellectual bond.Additionally, with their wealth of life experience, 84 per cent said they are now more confident in what they want as they age. For older women in particular, they are far more confident in themselves than their younger counterparts. No Approval? No Problem. Dating.Com Finds People Are No Longer Seeking Approval From Friends Family When It Comes To Their Significant Other

Survey finds that approval from loved ones is not an essential requirement for people to move romantic relationships forward.A majority of respondents noted that if they were to seek approval on their relationship from anyone, it would be from their mom.NEW YORK, Aug. 22, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Dating.com – part of Dating Group, the company behind over 40 online dating sites – today released newly collected survey data that shows we no longer need the approval of our friends and family on our significant others. 57% of respondents reported that they would end a friendship with someone who did not approve of their partner."For many, finding a partner that meets your needs can be a very challenging task. Because of this obstacle, which can feel insurmountable, many daters feel as though they need to hold onto a good relationship when they have one - even if it looks imperfect to other people in their life.
